Hawkins catchI wrote up a 53-man roster projection for the 49ers last night, and shortly after posting it I noticed I was immediately wrong.

The 49ers who were cut by 10 AM included offensive guard Wayne Tribue, free safety Trenton Robinson, fullback Jason Schepler, strong safety Michael Thomas and linebacker Travis Johnson,

I thought Thomas would make the roster because he had a good deal of playing time over the course of preseason and played considerably well. It seemed to be a toss up between Thomas and Robinson, but the cutting of both bodes well for Bubba Ventrone.

I’ll update this over the course of the day as more cuts get announced.

Final 3 PM cuts:

The 49ers posted an official release with the cuts. They were as follows:

OT Carter Bykowski

WR Austin Collie

CB Marcus Cooper

TE MarQueis Gray

WR Chad Hall

RB Jewell Hamtpon

WR Lavelle Hawkins

LB Joe Holland

WR Chuck Jacobs

LS Brian Jennings

LB Travis Johnson

CB Darryl Morris

OG Patrick Omameh

WR Kassim Osgood

NT Mike Purcell

S Trenton Robinson

FB Jason Schepler

S Michael Thomas

OG Wayne Tribue

QB Seneca Wallace

OT Kenny Wiggins

The only really surprising developments on the list were the 49ers cutting Hampton in favor of Anthony Dixon and the newly acquired Owen Marecic, and the choice of Garrett Celek over MarQueis Gray. However, the 49ers still haven’t announced the signing of Marecic, so the roster count including Marecic stands at 54. Someone will still need to be cut in order to account for the addition.

Morning timeline:

Update (well this changes everything) – 10:10 AM

It’ll be interesting to see what this means for Anthony Dixon.

A preseason fan favorite didn’t make the roster after all. We’ll keep an eye on where he lands, because it won’t take long.

Update – 10:18 AM

49ers initially signed Osgood for special teams help.

Update – 10:33 AM

If this is true, and Jennings is cut, Kevin McDermott has won the long-snapping job for the 49ers. He was the longest-tenured 49er, drafted in 2000 and was a two-time Pro Bowler for the team.

Follow up: Jennings has indeed been released.

Update – 11:00 AM

Both Bykowski and Cooper should find their way to the 49ers’ practice squad.

Update — 11:24 AM

The 49ers’ wide receiver situation becomes more clear, with Anquan Boldin, Kyle Williams, Quinton Patton, Marlon Moore, Jonathan Baldwin and Chuck Jacobs remaining.

Update — 11:47 AM

Update — 12:37 PM

According to this post from Matt Barrows, the 49ers have released offensive lineman Patrick Omameh.
