According to All Access, 95.7 “The Game” (KGMZ) has dropped their 10-to-noon show featuring Matt Steinmetz and Sean O’Connell and will announce a replacement tomorrow morning. Steinmetz’s and O’Connell’s names have been removed from The Game’s website.
Complimenting the duo’s chemistry yesterday was probably the kiss of death. Sorry guys, that wasn’t my intention.
Steinmetz became a full-time host for KGMZ in August of 2012, and was paired with Chris Townsend soon after. A few months later he left his role as “Warriors Insider” with CSN Bay Area.
The Game reshuffled their lineup, putting Townsend with Ric Bucher in the afternoon and keeping Steinmetz at 10 am. O’Connell was named Steinmetz’s permanent co-host last February, and from that point the station kept the lineup the same for almost a year.
Until now.
Who’s going to replace Steinmentz and O’Connell? It would make a major splash if they landed Ralph Barbieri, but I haven’t heard anything about that being a possibility. Rich Lieberman reported that Barbieri settled his lawsuit with Cumulus in September for $4 million, days before the case was scheduled to go to trial. If that’s true, would the settlement even allow Barbieri to take a job at a competing station, where he’d have a very difficult time staying quiet about how his tenure ended at KNBR?
I’m trying to find out more information on that end. Meanwhile, tomorrow’s announcement will probably be about the arrival of some seasoned host we’ve never heard of who worked in St. Louis, Tallahassee, Mobile and Pittsburgh before taking a job with The Game.
