Jason Barrett really screwed the pooch by breaking up The Rise Guys. At least he finally got it though his thick skull what Bay Area listeners like. Now Barrett is leaving thankfully.
Great stuff! You don't get this kind of content anywhere else. Love to see Dibley back in the game. Only wish you'd asked a little bit more about his relationship with Mr. Radnich... the Damon Experience was a pretty good consolation, however.
@Sunset Boy Yeah, it would've been interesting to hear about Dibley's relationship with Gary. They both took shots at each other when Dibley started at 95.7. Didn't Gary call Dibley the 3rd guy or something like that? Dibley would use Gary's drops such as "good knowledge" and Gary's signature laugh. I think Gary took more jabs at Dibley than Dibley did at Gary, but now that time has passed, it would've been interesting to hear how Dibley feels about Gary now in general.
It would be nice to hear an honest critique of Gary. The people on KNBR are too scared to really criticize Gary. Krueger, Kate, and sometimes Fitz takes jabs at him, but it's more playful jabs, even though Gary sometimes looks pissed when they take a jab at him sometimes. But yeah, no one on KNBR would probably give a real honest critique on this platform on a podcast like this.
@Sunset Boy On 95.7, they won't even mention his name, even though Damon will tell you how he really feels about Gary, but he's obviously still bitter about what happened between him and Gary in 2011. I think Dibley would give you the positives and negatives of Gary and his style, even though the differences he mentioned between Damon and Gary here were on point.
On the other hand, it would be good for them to have Damon on, because even though he's still bitter about what happened in 2011, I think he would still be able to give an honest critique good and probably mostly bad of Gary, on a podcast like this. Hopefully BASG and Damon can mend fences so that this can happen. I think a lot of the other commenters would be interested in hearing what Damon had to say regarding Gary, and maybe go into more about what happened in 2011.
LOL about "The Damon Bruce Experience". That would be the perfect nickname for when Damon co-hosted with Gary for a short stint in 2011. I, like BASG, thought it was a good idea at the time, but as we saw, it just didn't work out. Dibley described the differences between Gary and Damon perfectly. What seemed like a good mix, ended up mixing like oil and water. Plus, they both have big egos. Krueger has been the perfect co-host for Gary, and probably what KNBR envisioned Damon being at the time. It's hard to believe it's been almost 4 yrs that Krueger has co-hosted with Gary.
Hopefully one day you guys can interview Damon Bruce regarding his pairing with Gary, as well as get his take on both stations. It definitely would be entertaining to hear what he would say about it, unfiltered. It's too bad Damon is not friends with BASG. I'm sure BASG is cool with Damon overall?
Another good interview with Dibley by BASG and Bay Area Duck Guy!.... Man, it just shows you how tough it is to make it in the radio business, where guys might have to contemplate another career. Dibley's persistence is commendable, and it was good of Barrett to at least be open to discussing with Dibley about coming back to 95.7.
Kind of interesting the insights he gave on KNBR. Even though it would be nice if they made small changes here and there, with the ratings they have, there isn't a need.
But yes, great job guys!
Kudos to BASG and BADG for another great interview. It's funny how Dibley comes off as a nice, entertaining guy when he's simply being natural as opposed to the snarky, immature personality he uses when on-air. I could see him being a good, long-term option for the new PD, but only if he's more natural and knocks off the silly BS, like that Mt. Whatevermore garbage.
Liked Dibley first 2 days this week-sincere, honest, funny. Then "Dibs" makes an appearance Thursday like your friend you like, but hate taking them to a social situation because they over talk and become obnoxious trying their "A" game. Stay in your shoes and be more vanilla Dan.
Dibley confirming that the ratings went up post Rise Guys makes me sad. Huff & co were grossly unlistenable.
@Pulgas de Brent Burns Gotta listen to one show every morning for a year... who you got: BTH vs. Flight 957?
@elpolloloco @Pulgas de Brent Burns Flight 957 and its not even close. Bad as that one is, BTH just insulted my intelligence. I used to listen fairly regular but since the Rise Guys got dropped and BTH got started, 95% of my listening to that station is in the car flipping between that, KNBR and music. I almost never listen online during work anymore. More NPR, music and KNBR instead.
It's a good thing Papa is off this week, he'd be asking Dan about Vanna White's cans between interviews about Dolphins having sex with humans.
@Pulgas de Brent Burns haha. Yeah, I don't understand Greg Papa's fascination with the guy who had sex with a dolphin. Listening to Papa and Lund interviewing him felt weird
