The Guys kick-off episode 12 with a 49ers vs. Patriots preview (don’t miss the BASG 5th Anniversary party explained in the podcast!) as BADG explains why he’s picking the Patriots and BASG outlines his “good feeling” about the 49ers. Plus, you’ll hear about the Warriors (4-0 on the road trip!) and why the Giants are still the team to beat even with the Yankees … err … Dodgers spending a ton of dough.
Since we’re on the subject of podcasts and audio entertainment, here’s today’s contest question:
Which local radio host or personality would you invite over to YOUR pizza party?
Your answer could be a person from either KNBR or 95.7 FM “The Game,” or if you listen to this BASGcast and like what you hear, you can invite Joey (we all know I’m not someone you want to let into your home, plus I’ll eat all your pizza). Just one thing: let’s refrain from mentioning who you DON’T want at your party.
At the end of the week we’re giving away two prize packages that include:
- A Pizza Party for 10 people from Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria (lots of free and delicious pizza)
- The “Official 2012 World Series Film,” which I reviewed here (DVD or Blu-ray, winner’s choice – $35 value)
- The 8-disc “San Francisco Giants 2012 World Series Collector’s Edition” Box Set (DVD orBlu-ray, winner’s choice – $100 value)
To enter the contest, just let us know which radio host you’d want to hang out with, eat Amici’s pizza and watch some Giants World Series action. You can enter once each day — our first contests were based on which San Francisco Giant you’d invite over and which San Francisco 49er you’d want at your pizza party.

According to RICH LEIBERMAN425 MEDIA, BYRNES IS OUT at KNBR. Remember when that fool Radnich used to welcome Byrnes as a great guy "who deserves every penny" he got from Arizona?.. And "Byrnes is going to be big in sportstalk". Then kids...suddenly no mention of Byrnes a few months later. Kreuger might have said his name..but he became persona non grata with Raddy. Uhuh. That means Byrnes must have told Raddy..like most do..You old fool over something. I get the feeling Byrne's wasn't a KNBR team player..just ask Arizona or Seattle Lee Hammer..you dope!..hee.
Towny. Get a couple beers in him and the stories would roll...
Love Kate Scott. Knowledgable, don't put up with the boys' shiznit.
After getting to know almost all of the radio personalities KNBR and 95.7 has to offer, I would say the best person to talk to would be Damon Bruce. Wide range of sports knowledge (originally from Indiana and proud of it) and is always opinionated. I have loved talking any and every sport that comes to mind with him, and his love of college sports really connects to me.
Oh, that's pretty cool that you've gotten to know almost all of the radio personalities on KNBR and 95.7!.... I totally agree with you on Damon. Can he be a little too into himself? Yes, but as I said yesterday, a lot of these radio guys probably have big egos, even though Damon does have a big ego at times. At the same time though, he does seem humbled, gracious, and probably overwhelmed at times, for the following that has. But yes, Damon does have great sports knowledge, and you feel like you can just talk sports with him without all the BS, when you listen to his show. There really is no show like his on either station, even though the Townsend and Bucher show is becoming a pretty good show, and Ray Woodson isn't too bad on Sportsphone. The Gary and Larry show isn't too bad either, but as I said before, that show is better without Gary. But yes, I totally agree with you on Damon.
Greg Papa. Oh the stories he could tell.
Yeah, it would be interesting to hear what he has to say about Fitz, and how Greg Papa lost his Warriors gig to Fitz in 1997. I wasn't into sports yet when this happened, but apparently it was a big deal in Bay Area sports at the time. Fitz basically took Greg Papa's Warrior job, even though I guess Greg Papa was still calling A's and maybe Raiders games at the time? That must've been something for him to call games for the Warriors, the A's, and the Raiders around that time, the mid-late 90's. I guess I would ask him about that if I met him, and if him and Fitz are cool with each other now, especially since they have to talk to each other on the Warriors pre and postgame shows on CSN Bay Area. I would ask him how he really feels about the Raiders, and maybe Amy G as well. LOL.
Townsend...Local guy to shoot the breeze
Gary would be my choice because he would be the most likely to pick up the tab on all the food and beverages that would be consumed.
Gary wouldn't pick up the tab. He'd just yell at the waiter "DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM???!?!"
LOL. Yeah, he probably would do and say that
haha. Oh yeah, for sure. He drives a Bentley for goodness sakes. Doesn't he also make 300 K a year like Ralph did? Yeah, I'm sure Gary could pick up the tab, even though I would not try to break the bank though. LOL. What happens if he has a nice night out planned for his wife?
I would pick Murph for sure
Rick Tittle, have some beer and pizza and talk A's Baseball.
I pick Charlie Pellet Who better to hang out with than the guy from Wall Street with all the inside info.
Marty Lurie: 1)"Baseball is a talking sport" and he could talk it all old school, new school, both local teams snd I wouldn't have to hear 1 1/2 hours of Brandon Belt nickname suggestions like some Sunday nights! 2) Marty's Amici's connections will get us more stuff and 3) we all should know a defense attorney. You never know!...If it has to be a regular host , then it's a toss-up between Bruce and Bucher; respect their sports opinions and they both seem to have a more interesting non-sports nature in case other topics get brought up.
The hard part would be getting Marty to go home.
There is an element of truth there Beaver.
LOL. Oh man, that's messed up.... Marty Lurie is great. BTW, did anyone get a chance to go with Marty Lurie to Cabo San Lucas last week?
+1
Tolbert all day, eat some pie drink IPA, watch the Giants blu rays and talk about playing with Hardaway and Mullin? That's a good party.
Kate S tired of hearing the rest of KNBR gang as it is.
I'll second the Kate Scott suggestion. Would make a good guest.
I've actually met Damon off the mic more than once. While he's entertaining on the air, he is every bit as egotistical off the air as he comes across. Not that I wouldn't have a beer with him, but he's very much into Damon and what Damon thinks.
That may be the most perfect description of Damon Bruce I have heard Fitz's. Damon is in to what Damon thinks. And thats how his show comes across.
Even though I'm a fan of Damon, I wouldn't be surprised if him being egotistical is the case. He does have an ego and kind of makes it seem like it's all about him sometimes. His ego is bigger now than it was in his Sportsphone days. That's cool that you met him off the air though. I'm sure a lot of these radio guys have egos though. Look at Gary, Tony Bruno, Ralph, Greg Papa, et. al.
No doubt. The pecking order of their minds that they do on air is funny. Raddy complains about critics who haven't done it..then he bashes Bonds, who really done it. Kreuger thinks radio hosts have more credibility then columnists-lol....he's stuck in 2005 for eternity. The man can't get away from it.
LOL. Yeah, it is kind of a funny double standard. Gary doesn't really like Bonds. I'm not sure if Bonds probably blew Gary off, but I think Gary doesn't really like Bonds because of how he treated the media, and the little people, in his career. As far as Krueger goes, yeah, he kind of does make it seem like that's the case, even though he's probably joking half the time. I don't think Krueger really feels that way. I think Krueger sometimes acquires the same schticks and rants (the rant about media guys taking free hot dogs or whatever. It's like, who cares?!? LOL) as Gary because he's on Gary's show.
I sorta do believe that. I've met that type. And he looks over you as he see's something that REALLY interests him..so get out of the way. "And contact my people"..
Well' if Raddy would let me borrow his Bentley for a week.............more likely.......... "Mac" Paulie Macaffery is way more natural and casual about sports, yet knowledgable about ball and, not needing to preach, "break-down" or 'opine' on every micro detail of a game, so he gets my vote - plus his Dead, Springsteen, Rock knowledge and bootleg CD collection to share - sure don't hurt. Have some "pie" Mac!
Probably Papa. A good intellect. And I could make some points that he would take in. Lotsa fun huh?.. Raddy? ugh. I might as well invite Sybil and have less multiple personality's to decipher...
Sybil. Not bad Stan. Good reference.
Look up refrain in the dictionary - I believe the word was in the instructions. LOL
I'm a rebel.
Larry Krueger. Then Damon Bruce. The only reason is that Larry has had a more interesting, and eclectic road, than just broadcast stops. He is opinionated, super knowledgeable, and it would be a treat to sit won and chat about sports.
Forgot about P-Con. I change mine to P-Con. Would be fun to drink with him.
I prefer listening to Damon Bruce, but I think it would be more fun to hang out with Mr. T. Very close though.
Damon Bruce and his mom! :)
Pound it, pound it, pound it, pound it... Wait, no..
Tolbert definetely
How could I forget P-Conn? A good friend of mine actually met him in Tahoe and confirmed that he is indeed a fun guy off the mic.
Both Damon and Tolbert strike me as fun guys to drink with, but if Tom is around the beer probably wouldn't last as long. Townsend is another good choice, we could probably share stories about our favorite SJ watering holes.
Initially I thought Ratto would be fun and then I thought about how it would be great to have PCon around to have some beers with. So I have to say PCon. Ratto may be a party killer.
Ha, totally called it. Tom Tolbert, easily. If that was off the board, it'd be either Towny (SJSU alum), Brodie Brazil (Sharks connections) or Dibley (so I can smack him for being so goddamn annoying).
Tolbert. Bear Down Arizona.
Not the two gents that show up on your webpage for this post. You can also add the guys who do KNBR's morning show off the list.
I played in a fundraiser poker tournament and sat next to Tolbert. A funny, nice guy.
Good question. I'm a fan of lots of the local sports radio personalities for different reasons. In the end, Gary Radnich is the local legend and I think if he would actually agree to join a pizza party, he'd be genuine about it. Tolbert is a close second because I think I'd have way more in common with him and he seems very relaxed and easy going. If its a Niner Sunday, ED (he could skip a day at work), because the guy knows football better than anyone else on local radio. But right now, Gary Radnich.
Damon Bruce.... It would be nice to meet him, and I could talk to him about all the Bay Area sports teams, mainly the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors. I'm sure we will probably be talking about Indiana hoops as well, even though I don't follow them. I could also talk to him about his relationship/feud with Gary, and if it's really real or not, as well as other KNBR stuff, and maybe his real feelings about 95.7, even though we kind of already know his feelings about that station. Townsend would be a close 2nd for me, as well as Larry Krueger, but if I had to pick one, it would be Damon Bruce.
knbr - tolbert game - townsend
