Colin Kaepernick wore a Miami Dolphins hat yesterday. Why is that a big deal, you ask? Well, it’s not. But, apparently, the blogosphere doesn’t agree with the more practical among us.

I saw on Reddit this morning that some blog had published a photo of Kaepernick in the infamous Dolphins hat. When I saw it, I thought, “Meh, this guy’s shoe fetish is large enough to keep a sweatshop in operation.” And, really, if fans don’t care about gratuitous shoe purchases, why would they care about his hat choices — after all, the Dolphins are neither in the NFC nor the 49ers’ stratospheres.

Who needs two pairs of every shoe?

Who needs two pairs of every shoe?

But, lo and behold, a quick Google search of “Colin Kaepernick wearing Miami Dolphins hat” yielded 68,000 hits. Even if 3/4 of those are porn sites, that number is still awfully high. And, I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Kaepernick sent the following message to fans via Instagram:

To his credit, Kaepernick does indeed “grind,” as he says. In his first season as a starter, Kaepernick was rated as top-five quarterback according to Football Outsiders’ DVOA and ESPN’s Total QBR. But he’s not resting on his laurels. Just weeks after the Super Bowl, Kaepernick rallied teammates and began preparing for this upcoming season at a training facility in Atlanta. So, as long as he is willing to work hard and win games for the 49ers, Kaepernick can wear any hat he wants.
