You guys got anything going on for the night of July 25th? Of course you don’t: it’s a Thursday in the middle of summer, which means there’s no football or basketball and the Giants have an off day. So why don’t you come hang out with myself (Ruthless), Eddie Maisonet (@edthesportsfan) and the good folks at The Sports Fan Journal for a special night of cinema in Oakland?
TSFJ has joined forces with SLAM and New Era Caps to launch a new project called The Sports Fan Film Series. The Sports Fan Film Series (SFFS) aims to bring sports fans together through independent film with stories about sports and competition with film screenings across the country. Hosted by The Sports Fan Journal, the Sports Fan Film Series will serve as the curator for storytellers looking to share their movies with enthusiastic fans and people of influence.
The first of these special airings will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 25th at The New Parkway Theater in Oakland. The film is called “Doin’ It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC.” Tickets are only $9.00!
“Doin’ It In The Park” is an independent documentary directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau. The film explores the history, culture and social impact of New York, the worldwide “mecca” of the sport, and its summer basketball scene. The film lovingly uncovers this movement through the voices of playground legends, NBA athletes and most importantly, the common ballplayer who all day looks forward to calling “next” game at their local schoolyard.
Here’s a look at “Doin’ It In The Park,” which I can’t wait to check out:
Tickets are available until the 15th, so be sure to reserve a spot here and come join TSFJ, SLAM and New Era for a night of fantastic film and sports!
