Bruce Bochy

Don’t give Gailey a chance

Just heard Chan Gailey will be the first guy interviewed for the 49ers’ offensive coordinator job.

That’ll start about as many kegstands as the Giants hiring Bruce Bochy did last year.

The Niners’ interest in Gailey, whose work in the NFL is mostly identified with the Cowboys, would make hiring him similar to Bochy in another way. Bochy was manager of the Padres for about 23 years, and without even a year in between becomes manager of the Giants for 2007. If the Jim Hostler era/year ends up sandwiched by Norvell Turner and Gailey, that’ll be two Cowboys calling plays for the Niners in three years.

That’s another problem with the Nolan era, it is almost as if he has shunned any input from former 49ers. It’s a shame that not long after their run as the best franchise in sports for 20 years, San Francisco can’t somehow keep any of those who were responsible in the fold.

For a coach who this past season put out a “Suggestion Box” to solicit ideas from players and coaches, you’d think Nolan could learn something from an ’80’s Niner somewhere along the way.
