Not good news for Freddy Sanchez, who played the field for 4 innings at minor league camp and felt pain in his surgically repaired right shoulder. San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy downplayed the latest problem with Sanchez’s lengthy rehab, but it’s hardly good news for a guy who’s been out of action since June 10 and seems to complain of discomfort every time he’s asked to throw.
“Hopefully we can get him possibly in San Jose, Wednesday or Thursday,” Bochy said. “He played the field, he made a throw, he felt just a little soreness. We’re going to back him off a couple days then hopefully start his rehab in the minor leagues.”
Would that be considered a step back?
“I’d say a little bit, you have to. Because we were hoping to do it tomorrow. It’s a minor setback, we don’t look at this as something serious. Think he’ll be fine, hopefully Thursday.”
It seems less likely that Sanchez will contribute at all this season as these setbacks add up. Here’s video of Bochy talking about Sanchez in the dugout before the game.

It's such a shame, because you can always use a good bat in the hands of a solid middle-infielder, but I'm afraid we've seen the last of Freddie this year.
