The Colorado Rockies have sent IF Marco Scutaro and cash considerations to the Giants for minor league 2B Charlie Culberson.
As a utility player, Scutaro gives the Giants a much needed upgrade over Emmanuel Burriss. Scutaro owns a career fielding percentage of .992 at shortstop, .992 at second base, and .943 at third. Fielding aside, the bigger upgrade is at the plate, where Scutaro owns a career .270 BA.

As an A's fan, it pains me to see him in orange and black. As a Scutaro fan, it's good to see him back in the Bay. He had some great moments with the A's and was clutch when it mattered. Giants fans will love him. I just hope the Giants with their stupid nicknames don't start calling him "Scoots". lol
Probably a good pickup -- you've also gotta think his ability to play 3B helped in the decision, with Panda's hamstring right now. Solid utility infielders are always good to have around, in any case. Maybe a slight upgrade over Mike Fontenot in that sort of role, though he's been having a pretty good season in Philly.
Marco Scutaro was a clutch batter with the A's. He had a lot of big hits when they needed it.
Good call. According to Fangraph's "clutch" stat, Scutaro performed well in clutch situations during 3 of his 4 seasons in Oakland. This season he has a clutch rating of .5, which puts him just above average. In limited chances, Burriss has a rating of -.16.
I was hoping the A's would snag Scutaro being super-versatile and a good clubhouse guy. That being said good cheap, helpful pickup for SFG. Only downside? No more pictures of Culbertson's wife when he played (Comcast was bordering on stalking whenhe got called up).
I think the Scutaro trade is a good trade. The Giants only gave up Culberson for him, and Scutaro can play SS, 2nd base, and 3rd base. Hopefully this isn't the Giants only deadline move though. I guess this probably puts to bed the idea of the Giants possibly going after Aramis Ramirez. But yes I'm happy with the Scutaro trade!
The cash is going the other way, from Colorado to SF to help cover Scutaro's salary.
Thanks, Tom.
