Giants change “Gamer Babe Day” to “Gamer Day”

Depending on who you ask, the term “Gamer Babe” is either loved, despised or ignored. Our own Wendy Thurm noticed something interesting about “Gamer Babe Day,” which is still scheduled for June 14 at AT&T Park but apparently will go by a different name.

Here’s what the promotion looked like before the change:

Same date, slightly new name:

Last week I saw a spirited discussion on Twitter about the term “Gamer Babe” (a compilation of blurry screenshots from that discussion can be found here). Whether the San Francisco Giants or the special event’s sponsor noticed and decided to make a change is unknown. If that was the case, it probably wasn’t a difficult change to make since the hat’s logo never included the word “Babe.”

Since I have nothing else to add, here’s what I remember about the “Gamer movement”: Aaron Rowand was its unofficial leader, as seen in this 2008 commercial celebrating supermarket violence.
