2013_MLB_All-Star_Game_LogoThe last-place (defending World Champion) San Francisco Giants have three All-Stars going to New York. Madison Bumgarner and Marco Scutaro both earned their first All-Star selections while Buster Posey’s selection was the second of his short career.

After last year’s ballot box flooding, no Giants were voted into the starting lineup. None. All of the Giants on the roster are in as reserves, and Bumgarner and Scutaro were selected by Bruce Bochy — still, Scutaro’s All Star selection should be enough to ensure Grant Brisbee will sleep soundly tonight..

Giants fans will get a chance to flood the ballot box in the form of the final fan vote, though. Hunter Pence is on the ballot along with Adrian Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig, Ian Desmond and Freddie Freeman.

Meanwhile, the first-place Oakland Athletics will send just one player to New York: pitcher Bartolo Colon.

Third baseman Josh Donaldson was left off the team in favor of Miguel Cabrera, rookie phenom Manny Machado and utility man Ben Zobrist. Also getting the snub is Grant Balfour, Oakland’s closer who is a perfect 40 for 40 in save opportunities dating back to last season.
