The Warriors were the first team to debut sleeved jerseys last season, since that time they have added a special Christmas version with sleeves and a white sleeved alternate. With the trend toward sleeved jerseys in the NBA the Warriors seem to be on the leading the charge on this, and recently there were reports that two more sleeved jerseys could be in the works.
Paul Lucas who runs the uni-watch blog has an NBA Source who has the rundown:
It’s not clear whether these new designs are prototypes, or still in development, or what. No visuals, either — just descriptions. Here’s what my source saw:
• There was a sleeved Warriors jersey in very dark gray, with a dark gray logo on the front and yellow numbers.
• There was another sleeved Warriors jersey (Golden State is apparently trying to set some kind of record in this category), this time in black with red and gold trim, and with Chinese characters on the front where the uni number would normally be.
The one in black with red and gold trim probably would have made sense to debut last night when the Warriors held their Chinese New Year celebration, but perhaps these are in the works for next season or possibly for no other reason than to try to gain more exposure in the Chinese market.
As for the gray jerseys, the source also noted that the Magic, Lakers and Bulls were are all also working on gray jerseys so perhaps gray is the new hot color at Adidas.
I am still not a fan of basketball jerseys with sleeves, but I understand why there seems to be a push for them. Jerseys more like t-shirts are probably a better look for most fans who don’t get to spend enough time at the gym to feel comfortable in a tank top. Plus there is also the potential for sleeves providing more space for advertising.
What are your thoughts on the Warriors potentially adding more sleeved jerseys to their rotation?
