Hunter Pence went 3-for-4 with a home run on Sunday afternoon, the kind of game that would usually earn free food and drinks at the San Francisco establishment of his choosing. Instead, Pence got a taste of the seedier side of the city by the bay.
Ahhhh someone stole my scooter! đ

Pence is in the first season of a five-year, $90 million contract. So, yeah, he could buy a fleet of motorized scooters if he wished. But this is different. This wasn’t one of those razor scooters tech guys ride around town while wearing collared shirts and khakis. As far as I know, Pence was the second Giant after Brian Wilson to get a scooter custom-made by team chef Joe Day.
Even without Marco Scutaro, the Giants are Team Scooter these days. Sergio Romo is among one of many players who’s parked a personalized scooter in the clubhouse this season; Madison Bumgarner reached into the closet next to his locker and grabbed his two-wheeled dream machine after talking to reporters today.
A lot of guys ride scooters around San Francisco, but Bumgarner may be the only one who’s 6′ 5″ and rides while wearing cowboy boots.

Since noted glove-thief RubĂ©n Rivera is playing ball in Mexico, there are no obvious culprits. Pence was so in love with his new scooter in 2012 that he told me he wished he could take it on roadtrips, but maybe there’s a silver lining here. Day recently tweeted that “GoPed” is out of business and referenced possibly being bankrupt. So, perhaps this could provide a small financial boost if Pence decides to replace his stolen ride with another.
Hopefully Pence’s scooter turns up (if you see someone cruising around the Bay Area on a black scooter covered with “8” and “PENCE” stickers, alert the local authorities). In the meantime, maybe he can borrow his girlfriend’s scooter.
