LaMichael James had a pretty eventful sophomore year with the 49ers. He was inactive for several weeks in the middle of the season, seemed to complain about his lack of playing time on Twitter, then after Kyle Williams was released he became the team’s primary punt returner.
But James has never seemed all that happy with the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh, and today he posted this:
I’d rather they just let me go
— LaMichael James (@LaMichaelJames) January 30, 2014
Whenever James tweets anything of this nature, we know what’s coming afterward.
I didn’t get hacked and personally no 1 has any idea what I’m talking about but if I tweet anything it’s always about Ftball
— LaMichael James (@LaMichaelJames) January 30, 2014
Maybe James is telling the truth and that first tweet wasn’t about football. Perhaps he’s staying with his parents and wants to go to a movie, but they’re making him mow the lawn or clean his room. Or he was at a shopping mall, and two or three adoring fans wouldn’t stop hugging him no matter how much he begged to be set free.
But earlier in the day, James responded to a fan’s question in a way that makes it seem like the “let me go” tweet WAS about football.
@jagbirdhanda thanks but don’t count on it lol

Either way, there’s a chance James gets traded between now and the 2014 season.
Marcus Lattimore should be ready to go by training camp, so it’ll be difficult to get past fourth on the running backs depth chart. And while James came through with some key returns late in the season, he also muffed a punt in the NFC Championship Game that was recovered by teammate Darryl Morris.
He’s a second round pick, so the 49ers aren’t going to want to release him and that probably wouldn’t be necessary. The 49ers wouldn’t get equal draft value back in a deal, but there may be a team that’s willing to see if they could fit him into their offense, something the 49ers have struggled to accomplish.
I think the main problems with the Roman offense are the lack of rythym and the inability or unwillingness to take what the defense is giving. LMJ is the perfect example of this. Screens or flares in the pistol to LMJ (like KAP threw at Nevada) are great ways to establish rythym. IMO it is plain stubbornness.
I like Lamichael James. He's got great speed, quickness and versatility. This a great football if he were featured in a well balanced offense that would include quick speed in the backfield.on all other teams, you see other plays than power of the middle.Kendall is a great back too. I'm bummed every game
Not to see these players play! I say adios to OC Roman.
James is too small to ever be in competition to be the main back. He's always going to be a role player or a special teams guy. So if he thinks he can go elsewhere and be the featured back, then he's probably delusional. With that said, I'd think the Niners can figure out a more prominent role for him in the offense, like how Darren Sproles is used in New Orleans. Honestly, I was really hoping Greg Roman would be hired by another team as a head coach so the Niners can get a better OC in place. Somebody who is capable, or willing, to figure out a way to get LaMichael in the offense. I think he could be a valuable weapon, but the Niners seem unable to figure out a way to use him.
Always hated Ginn, but it was supremely embarrassing how much better he was after he left, particularly after the coaching staff emphasized the need for a deep threat. Insularity is a serious issue for us right now.
Earn your time. You fumbled in the super bowl and it hurt. Your on a super bowl caliber team every year, be humble. If you want to chase the money like Delanie and Dashon go ahead.
how this guy could be so effective in college, and yet be a ghost in the NFL....i do lay some of the blame on roman- the play calling at the end of the SB (4 straight pass plays-2 identical plays in a row- and not a single run WHEN WE HAD A TIMEOUT LEFT) and then calling that exact same failure of a play(crabtree corner fade) at the end of the NFC champ. game left me speechless. i love frank gore, he has devoted his whole career to this team, being a total competitor during many losing seasons, but its pretty apparent that he has MAYBE one season left. we need to start planning for the future, and we have a great 1-2 punch with kendall and latimore. keep dixon as kick returner?
What's so dumb about his decision if its true, Is realistically Gore has probably one more great season in him and after that it will be a open competition. IMO I think he's scared of the fact he might not win that competition
Kaep probably doesn't like him. Or it could be that nagging problem that the QB can't throw screen passes
@MrMoneyMani yeah smh hes been doing this for a while. Him & Anthony Dixon!
I hope he don't leave. I love using him on madden he's almost unstoppable. I play him as WR... OH THERE'$ A THOUGHT
Maybe if he stopped being an immature child and talk with his coaches he would get more playing time. Maybe if he would work on his ball control he would get a bigger slice of offense pie.... Honestly I like the guy and he is leaps and bounds over Kyle Williams but I think we can do better. Not to mention I think Lattimore will be better. We have plenty of people who catch well out of the back field. He wants to go let him go.....he can try and win somewhere else. We need a returner with a little bit of BOOM anyway!
BTW.....I nominate Rocketgoldstar as the OC....he seems to have all the answer.
This is all Greg Roman's fault. A smarter offensive coordinator, like Norv Turner with LT and Sproles, would immediately recognize his receiving talents out of the backfield and create screen and draw plays for him. I really don't wanna see this guy go to another team because I know he's going to light it up when a coordinator who has a normal brain like the rest of us uses him the way he's meant to be used
I don't trust his ball security at all, and his blitz pick ups were questionable at best. His comments reek of immaturity.
Greg Roman needs to go- or we need to get used to a lot of second place finishes. His arrogant refusal to get the most out of players with unique skillsets is just appalling. Screens to James, or quick slants in space? Can't work that in. Work a big guy with hops like Baldwin into the red zone offense? We'd rather be mediocre in clutch, thank you very much. It's bad enough that he's stunting Kaepernick's growth with what appear to be single read plays, rather than progressing to the open receiver, which is how they appear to be coaching him, based on Harbaugh's post game remarks. He just shows no interest in correcting chronic flaws- peewee level clock management, Kapernick's stare downs, incorporating different skillsets into the offense. By what metric is this guy a good OC, can anyone explain to me? He just doesn't appear to have what it takes. Ginn of all people was wildly more effective after leaving the team. If he refuses to correct his game, he needs to be canned. Does anyone think Belicheck wouldn't find creative ways to incorporate LMJ into his offense? You can't just bury these guys and expect them to get any better. It's an embarrassment- he's a mediocrity hiding behind an elite defense.
I don't get the article. It's pretty simple he wants more PT, not going to get it. Would rather play where he can have an impact at RB
@BASportsGuy I feel if any RB deserves more PT, it's Kendall. still wonder what it would take for THAT to happen
@hovitaBABY I hope the Raiders pick him up and he fumbles on every run lol
@BASportsGuy hope they trade him to the Jaguars
@BASportsGuy "Perhaps he’s staying with his parents and wants to go to a movie" Haha awesome. Killed it!
@BASportsGuy There is a good joke here...Brandon Jacobs and LMJ walk into a bar....
Lots of unhappy players on these Niner teams...jeez they'd rather be playing for last place with Nolan and Singletary?!?
@BASportsGuy another 2012 draft gem....Thanks Baalke....
Tell me about it, Harbaugh released B.J. Daniels and kept Colt McCoy sorry butt!
I like the decisions that Harbaugh makes except for the decision to keep Greg Roman around.
Not only Ginn played better after he left the Niners, but Alex Smith also had a better year, with one 5-touchdown game, a feat he never accomplished with the Niners. SEVERAL others also played better. 49er players have to play WITHIN THE SCHEME, so not all players including James are going to have big years. JAMES is better suited as an outside runner and returner than as an inside runner.
It's all Roman fault! He gets credit for doing absolutely nothing! Terrible play calling! He's cost us 3 seasons in a row!
LaMichael James has a 4.2 40. Why doesn't he call screen passes for him? Why don't we use more 2 TE formations? With the talent we have at WRONG, why aren't we lining up in the shotgun formation all the time? Opposing teams can't double team all of our receivers! They can't blitz because it would leave someone wide open or If they double team someone they gotta worry about Kaep running on them.
It's common sense!
Greg Roman sucks! And I PRAY that we get rid of him ASAP so he can't hurt us anymore!
I see where the ravens signed Gary Kubiac as their OC.... Last time we won a Super Bowl he was our OC. He WAS available. I guess big brother John Harbaugh is just a little smarter than little brother Jim... SMH
I love our coach, but there's no way he's not seeing the same thing as everyone else in the world... The fans at least.
Get rid of Roman ASAP and we'll win a Super Bowl!!!
@JuuMoney wow man weenies. It's all good, still got lattimore and hunter!
Couldn't have said it better. Look at Teddy Ginn in CAR or even Jenkins on KC towards the end of the season. Roman doesn't put his players in a poaition to be ttheir best. This is a multiple SB championship team with nothing to show for it and it all rests on the offense and Roman.
Lmj sucks! He can't get through the line on runs and he runs straight into the coverage on returns, let him go he's s wast of space. As for Ted Ginn he can't catch the ball as a receiver that's his problem.
@rocketgoldstar Epic Know-it-all post. Have you considered applying for the job yourself? You've made it pretty clear that your football knowledge is superior to Roman's in just about every way - I'm wondering why you're wasting your time on internet message boards!
@alexgtrrzrulez Alex you're not very good at this
@topraman @BASportsGuy And the bartenders were Reggie McGrew and Glen Coffee?
@jlcritser I always liked the idea of creating schemes to fit the talents of the players rather than trying to fit players into schemes. The stubbornness of how our offense is designed and plays called is more than a little appalling at times.
@NinerDude Thanks man! It's pretty sad because I feel like our offense should be top 10. We got the names like Crabs, Boldin, Davis, Gore, LMJ, Hunter, and Kap. Yet we are an average, middle of the league offense. And the worst part is, since our offense can't even stay on the field long enough, our defense has to do more, like more plays on the field, and eventually they break down. We put so much pressure on our defense, I love those guys man and I feel so bad for them! Our offense needs to get its act together and that starts with giving the "Roman Empire" the boot!
You're silly! Do your research before you speak silly like you have! LaMichael James is a beast! Give him the opportunity and you will be amazed!
He's the fastest player on the team! He's talented, he just needs a chance.
It's hard being a superstar your whole life and then coming to the NFL and not even getting a chance.
Why draft him if you're not gonna play him?
Anyway, do your research before you speak silly like you did!
@Dan @rocketgoldstar Is that how you critique a good and knowledgeable comment, with snark? Maybe you are the know it all.
@hovitaBABY yeah, I already know you're just one up me anyways so I don't even try anymore
@SkeetahSmith I'm not a Roman defender by any stretch, but interviewing for jobs during the playoffs is normal and not disrespectful at all.
I was hoping he would get a job elsewhere.
I agree a little but Roman sucks and needs to be elsewhere. He was taking to other teams about a head coaching position during our playoff run. That's just disrespectful.
I want him out of San Francisco ASAP!
Some teams that design schemes to fit the talents of individual players have success. As appalling the Niner scheme is, they reached the NFC championship game, under a rookie head coach and a rookie offensive coordinator, their first 3 years in their positions in the NFL.
One more year the 49ers miss their quest for a 6th Lombardi trophy, I will call for Roman's ouster.
