LaMichael James might tweet himself out of town

LaMichael James had a pretty eventful sophomore year with the 49ers. He was inactive for several weeks in the middle of the season, seemed to complain about his lack of playing time on Twitter, then after Kyle Williams was released he became the team’s primary punt returner.

But James has never seemed all that happy with the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh, and today he posted this:

Whenever James tweets anything of this nature, we know what’s coming afterward.

Maybe James is telling the truth and that first tweet wasn’t about football. Perhaps he’s staying with his parents and wants to go to a movie, but they’re making him mow the lawn or clean his room. Or he was at a shopping mall, and two or three adoring fans wouldn’t stop hugging him no matter how much he begged to be set free.

But earlier in the day, James responded to a fan’s question in a way that makes it seem like the “let me go” tweet WAS about football.

Either way, there’s a chance James gets traded between now and the 2014 season.

Marcus Lattimore should be ready to go by training camp, so it’ll be difficult to get past fourth on the running backs depth chart. And while James came through with some key returns late in the season, he also muffed a punt in the NFC Championship Game that was recovered by teammate Darryl Morris.

He’s a second round pick, so the 49ers aren’t going to want to release him and that probably wouldn’t be necessary. The 49ers wouldn’t get equal draft value back in a deal, but there may be a team that’s willing to see if they could fit him into their offense, something the 49ers have struggled to accomplish.
