Manny Ramirez is at it again.
Only this time he isn’t getting into a confrontation with one of his teammates.
Apparently Ramirez requested 16 tickets for Saturday’s game against the Astros, which traveling secretary Jack McCormick said might not be possible.
After yelling, “just do your job,” Manny-being-Manny shoved McCormick to the floor.
On June 6 in the Red Sox dugout, Man-Ram took a mid-game swing at Kevin Youkilis, who to be fair has driven the rest of the Red Sox crazy with his melodramatic outbursts after poor at-bats.
Going after a teammate is one thing, but bullying a team employee shows Manny may not be the lovable space cadet he’s been portrayed as through the years.
Kudos to the Red Sox for dealing with both Manny-related issues internally, but I can’t help but think that if instead of Ramirez it was Barry Bonds who shoved a teammate and a traveling secretary in the same month, the resulting media firestorm would result in multiple press conferences, Homeland Security changing the terror alert from Orange to Red and Rick Reilly’s head exploding.
Of course Boston is the sporting land of rainbows and moonbeams nowadays, so Manny can pretty much do whatever he wants (unless Tampa Bay passes the Sox and move into the first place this week in the American League East).
