I’m not sure how many talk radio callers have told the world that Brandon Belt doesn’t have what it takes to start at first base for the San Francisco Giants. LOL KNBR Callers probably has an exact tally, but he’s already helped out enough with these BINGO cards so I’m hesitant to ask him to go through his extensive #BeltBash notes.
Yet the Belt vs. Pill debate isn’t dominating the airwaves anymore. Funny thing about that — all it seemed to take was Brett Pill getting called up and taking Belt’s spot at first base for a few days. It wasn’t about what Pill did or didn’t do while Belt sat and watched, essentially on “timeout.” But whatever adjustments Belt finally took to, they led to a rapid ascendance from “this guy’s totally lost” to Belt becoming a fixture in the No. 3 spot.
As Belt’s OPS soared past the .800 mark and he became a top-3 hitter in the National League over the month of August, the conversation changed. Instead of callers and hosts wondering whether Belt was even part of the team’s future with guys like Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval seemingly moving parts, the only Belt topic of note was how his hands were now placed on the bat.
But even back when a vocal minority called for Pill to get extended run at first base over the slumpy-shouldered Belt, the 25-year-old Texan still had a huge legion of fans who would’ve wanted to get their hands on the prize we’re giving the spotlight today … even after his baserunning snafu last night against Gerardo Parra and the D-Backs.
Hey, it’s a fabulous way to add to your autograph collection. All you have to do is come to the Public House on Saturday afternoon and play BINGO along with Marty Lurie’s pregame show on KNBR 680 and you’ll get your shot at this 5×7″glossy photograph with Belt’s signature.
In case you haven’t seen the bobbleheads, autographed baseballs and San Francisco Giants World Champions souvenirs we showed earlier this week, we’re playing BINGO (and holding a raffle) to raise money for Junior Giants. Everyone who shows up before 3 pm out on the patio gets a free BINGO card with catchphrases and other well-known moments from Marty’s shows, with opportunities to purchase more. As we play along with Marty’s show (he’ll be at the Public House all afternoon), those who complete BINGO can choose from several prizes donated by both the Giants and Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria.
For more details and to see how you can RSVP, visit our event page. And in case you’re wondering, even though people aren’t exactly “bashing” Belt these days on Marty’s show, we still found a way to get him onto some of those BINGO cards:
