Middlekauff: Raiders’ Hayden could end up on PUP list

According to John Middlekauff of 95.7 The Game, former Raiders first round pick cornerback D.J. Hayden is still not healthy and may be placed on the physically unable to perform or PUP list.

In 2013, the Raiders started off playing much better than anyone expected they would. But after a number of injuries revealed their lack of depth, things changed. The Raiders eventually finished the year playing exactly like people predicted, losing their last six games — the last four by a combined 68 points. After that nightmare, the team spent the offseason adding depth to key positions, especially the lines which were hit hard with the injury bug in 2013.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, cornerback is one of the positions with the least depth and the most question marks. Hayden, who only played eight games in his rookie year, is clearly crucial to the success of the secondary. If his injury continues for significant amounts of time, the Raiders could be looking at starting a fourth round rookie in Keith McGill in Week 1 — not an ideal proposition.
