Dennis Allen

Raiders reportedly looking to extend assistant coach contracts

Jason Tarver middle fingerThe Oakland Raiders have not confirmed that head coach Dennis Allen will be back in Oakland in 2014, but it is looking more and more like that will be the case. The latest news that hints he will return is that according to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are looking to give one-year extensions to their assistant coaches, including both coordinators Jason Tarver on defense and Greg Olson on offense.

Some, including former Raider and current sideline reporter for 95.7 The Game, Lincoln Kennedy, assumed that if Allen was kept on one of the coordinators would likely be fired because as he put it, “someone has to pay for a 4-12 season”. If all of the assistant coaches are being retained for a year, it would be a rather big vote of confidence for Allen.

In his end of the season press conference, Allen said that he would like to keep his coaching staff together and now it appears as though he will get his wish even though he still has not met with owner Mark Davis.

But at the same time, it also sets up Allen for a do or die season in 2014. The extensions are reportedly only to be for one year. Even though Allen has two years remaining on his contract, it is beginning to look like next season will determine whether or not he gets to finish out his first ever head coaching contract.

There is something to be said for continuity ... on the other hand, Greg Olson ????

I'm one of these sad Raider fans hoping for Gruden, but instead I get another year of ... crap.

@RaidersReporter I'm nit sure Olson was a major issue as much as Oline shuffle WR and a WR playing qb because you had no choice

@Texasraider21 haha I think thats the first time I've gotten a request for a topic. Sounds like a pretty good one to me, see what I can do.

@Samiam2112 Dont think he was necessarily a problem, but I do feel like he could be upgraded. I woulda even liked Sporano as OC...

@Samiam2112 He is a terrible bad head coach, not a bad OC. Browns overachieved b/c of him this season. They tried to tank and Norv said NO!

@RaidersReporter stop beating the dead horse of Norv that dudes hasn't stepped up by now there's a million reason one of them is he won't

@Samiam2112 I still think Sparano would be a better play caller and I think Norv Turner would be a huge upgrade. Probably others too.

@Samiam2112 That is true and its the reason Im not upset abt him not getting canned. Just thought there was an opportunity for an upgrade.
