The Oakland Raiders have not confirmed that head coach Dennis Allen will be back in Oakland in 2014, but it is looking more and more like that will be the case. The latest news that hints he will return is that according to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are looking to give one-year extensions to their assistant coaches, including both coordinators Jason Tarver on defense and Greg Olson on offense.
Some, including former Raider and current sideline reporter for 95.7 The Game, Lincoln Kennedy, assumed that if Allen was kept on one of the coordinators would likely be fired because as he put it, “someone has to pay for a 4-12 season”. If all of the assistant coaches are being retained for a year, it would be a rather big vote of confidence for Allen.
In his end of the season press conference, Allen said that he would like to keep his coaching staff together and now it appears as though he will get his wish even though he still has not met with owner Mark Davis.
But at the same time, it also sets up Allen for a do or die season in 2014. The extensions are reportedly only to be for one year. Even though Allen has two years remaining on his contract, it is beginning to look like next season will determine whether or not he gets to finish out his first ever head coaching contract.
