The San Francisco Giants Collector’s Edition Box Sets were pretty darned popular, at least based on the response we got whenever one became available. Again, you guys were very impressive when it came to the depth and quality of your contest comments. All you really had to do was throw a few words together with your name and a legit email address, and almost all of you wrote heartfelt comments about how the Giants touched you during the 2012 postseason run.
This is never really work, writing about sports. But when you feel responsible for writing up something after almost every game, sometimes it’s hard to sit back and remember why I started doing this in the first place. Or to remember how each game felt in the days and months that follow, beyond the details and popular talking points.
Reading your comments reminded me again and again exactly how beautifully chaotic the last Giants season was. And to pay you back (one of you, anyway), I’m happy to give the last of the three 8-disc sets we were given by A&E Productions.
The last winner of 2012? Mike, for this comment (chosen randomly):
With that, I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, happy holidays and an excellent 2013. I’ll be ringing in the New Year in Rio de Janeiro, but the rest of the “Guys” will have you covered while I’m gone.
Thanks so much to all of you for making 2012 such an amazingly fun year, a 12-month period when we launched a redesigned site, debuted BASGcast and tripled our traffic numbers from 2011. In the year to come we plan on taking the site to new heights, and we can’t do it without you. Family, friends, readers, sponsors — I am indebted to all of you for your support and feedback. It isn’t easy to build an audience without mass media backing, and I can’t convey how grateful I am that so many of you have either checked us out occasionally or read BASG on a daily basis. The Bay Area sports media landscape is going to look a lot different in five years from what you saw in 2012, and we plan on sticking around.
See you in 2013.
