There was a fairly entertaining game played between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings at Sleep Train Arena, but we’ll get to that later. Because even though the Kings won by two points and the game ended with Stephen Curry missing a 3-point try at the buzzer, there was one thing and one thing alone that this game will be remembered for.
Some teams raise championship banners to the rafters during their home openers. On Monday night the Kings’ home opener was marked by large black tarps dropping from the scoreboard while the players were on the floor.
Nice quip from the mayor of Sacramento, although he might have missed one of the tarps that fell.
Luckily none of the players suffered the indignation of having one of the tarps land on them while taking the ball across halfcourt or launching a three. The first fallen tarp was collected by Keith Smart, who ran out on the floor with a smile on his face like it was all part of the show.
The third one was picked up by Aaron Brooks, who looked like a pretty good pickup himself for Sacramento when he scored five of the Kings’ last six points to cement Sacramento’s first win.
First the Oakland A’s, now the Kings … tarps are never a good sign.
