*Casilla has an option for 2016 (based on performance) for an unknown amount with a $1 million buyout.

Several things to note:

— This is for estimation purposes only. One can find several discrepancies just by looking at Baseball-Reference and Spotrac for specific players. Also, the arbitration numbers aren’t set in stone — Travis Ishikawa agreed to more money than MLB Trade Rumors estimated, and Hector Sanchez agreed to less.

— This 25-man roster is just a guess — the Giants’ payroll could go up more if they add a platoon partner for Gregor Blanco from outside the organization or (chuckle) sign James Shields (guffaw). Yes, there’s a good chance that Andrew Susac starts the year with the big club. But since Sanchez is making more, I included him here.

— I added Jake Peavy, Sergio Romo and Casey McGehee to Bay Area Stats Guy’s chart from last month.

— I assumed for the purposes of this post that Romo’s $15M is spread evenly over the next two years, but that might not be the case. In fact, based on how the Giants have done most of their two-year deals for pitchers, Romo will probably get $7M in 2015 and $8M in 2016. I’ll go back and change the numbers if we find out anything different in the future (unless I forget).

— I included Peavy’s $4M signing bonus into his 2015 salary.

— Scott prorated the signing bonuses for Matt Cain and Buster Posey over the lives of their respective contracts. I removed those bonuses, since they were already paid and I’m more interested in total money scheduled to be spent this upcoming season (the bonuses were presumably already paid when Cain and Posey signed their extensions, and we aren’t worried about a “cap hit” like we might in other sports).

— I removed the projected arbitration figures beyond 2015, because I believe those are based on performance, as well as service time.

I also went and added up the salaries for the Giants 2014 Opening Day roster, plus Scutaro.

2014 Opening Day plus Scutaro total: $147,788,667

With significant raises (around $1M or more) to Bumgarner, Posey, Pence, Hudson, Lincecum, Blanco and Romo, and arbitration raises still to come to several other players, it looks like the Giants’ payroll will grow by around $15M over 2014. That’s an increase in the neighborhood of 10%, which is generally the rate that the Giants’ budget tends to grow each year.

“We’ve got some limited financial flexibility still left, and we have to decide how best to utilize that,” Brian Sabean said in a recent conference call with the beat writers.

In other words, don’t expect the Giants to give another holiday gift to their fans in the form of a high-priced free agent like Shields. Yep … this is the team we’ll see in 2015, more or less. As the season takes shape, the Giants will probably assess their weaknesses and look to bolster the roster during the summer with a trade (like they did with Peavy after Cain was lost for the year).
