San Jose Sharks confirm: Drew Remenda will not return next season

The contract extensions for Alex Stalock and Mike Brown weren’t enough to steal the spotlight Tuesday evening when it was first reported by Rich Lieberman (pictured, center) that San Jose Sharks analyst Drew Remenda would not be covering the team next season.

The news created quite the Twitter frenzy: Could Drew really be leaving? Who would want to break up the “Randy & Drew” team?

In fact, the Sharks confirmed Tuesday that Remenda was not invited back into the SAP Center broadcast booth for the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

Bay Area Sports Guy received the following statement from Sharks COO John Tortora:

“Sharks Television Color Analyst Drew Remenda will not be returning for the 2014-15 season.

Drew has been a long-standing member of the Sharks family for many years, dating back to his days as an assistant coach.  We would like to thank Drew for his years of service to the Sharks organization and to our fans.  We wish him the best in the future.”

Remenda had just wrapped his 13th season as the Sharks TV analyst and was behind the bench as an assistant coach from 1991-1995.

Remenda’s replacement “will be announced at a later date,” according to the Sharks.
