You guys went above and beyond with this latest contest. Over 50 stories of where you were and what you were doing during Matt Cain’s perfect game, and all of them were fantastic. I’m just over here, trying to give away some videos, and you guys pour your hearts out. I wish I could give every one of you a prize, but I can’t. But I still have a couple more presents for your stocking, after I give away this 8-disc Box Set I mentioned yesterday.
Which goes to…
Congratulations, Jerod! Now it’s time to give out another GIF, err, GIFT (even better … sometimes):
If you didn’t win, not all is lost. Today we’re giving away a copy of the San Francisco Giants World Series Film. According to this dork it’s a pretty good flick, especially the part at the end when the team mimics Hunter Pence.
To win, all you have to do is answer this question in the comments:
Where were you during Game 7 of the 2012 NLCS?
Why am I asking question in a contest for a movie about the 2012 World Series? Because as you can see at the bottom of this photo I took, this DVD or Blu-ray (winner’s choice) also includes the unforgettable pennant-clinching game that concluded with the kind of downpour I’d never seen baseball teams play through before. It was perfect, and so was the poetic justice/schadenfreude/whatever when Matt Holliday popped out to Marco Scutaro.
I’m sure you won’t disappoint with your answers — you haven’t let me down yet.
Oh, and you have until the end of today (Wednesday, December 19) to enter.

Whoa, realized I answered the wrong question. (Save that for when you ask us a question about where we were during Game 4 of the World Series) Game 7, I was at Finnerty's in NYC surrounded by San Franciscans, past and present, smashing into each other for 15 straight minutes in sheer joy. Took Barry Bomb shots (a Finnerty's specialty) at 1am, high-fived everyone wearing something that looked like orange, and broke into an infinite amount of "Let's Go Giants" cheers throughout the course of the night.
In 2010, I listened to the Giants win the world series in my host mother's living room as a study abroad Barcelona student at 4am in the morning. Alone. I now live in Queens. After I found the SF bar Finnerty's in the East Village in Manhattan, I figured that I never had to endure another memorable moment ALONE again. How wrong I was. The night the Giants won the World Series (game started at 8pm) was also the night that the MTA shut down the subways at 7pm. Finnerty's is 50 minutes from my house on the Subway and if I went I would be stranded, with an impending storm on the way, and forced to walk home. So I took the safe and secure option (knowing how bad Sandy was...probably good in retrospect?) and watched jubilant Giants jump out, in contrast to my slouched body language on the couch. I've never been sadder to watch such a great thing happen. Definitely, DEFINITELY, hurt more the second time.
I left Game 6 as giddy as ever. My wife and I got on the 5 Fulton heading home. I constantly refreshed Twitter for reactions and checked Stubhub for a Game 7 ticket. When the prices were too high I convinced myself to watch at home with some loyal fans. Monday morning I got to work at 6am and realized, GAME 7!?!? MATT CAIN!?!?! There is no way I am not going. I caved and bought a single bleacher seat. I sat next to a season ticket-holding mother and son who instantly became my best friends along with everyone else within high-fiving distance. I couldn't believe when the rain started in the 9th and the crowd ERUPTED. It was the exact opposite of fair-weather fans. I raised my arms and started to cry when Scutaro caught the final out. Afterwards I rode my bicycle home through one of the hardest downpours I've ever seen in SF, yelling and smiling, knowing that was the most unreal game I've been to in my life.
I was at the game with my mother. My parents, brother and I share 2 season ticket seats in View Reserve. In 2010, not only were we too late to purchase the rights to postseason tickets for our seats, but my work schedule then prevented me from watching any of the post season games live, except for weekend games. And there were hardly any on weekends. Having the opportunity to be at the game this year, with my mom, who is a bigger Giants fan than any other mother I know, was the icing on this surreal night's cake. The rain was incredible. And everyone there thought so too. During the game especially, but even after as well. We exited to a puddle filled concourse, people dancing on the Willie Mays statue, and a fire engine, moving at parade speed down Townsend blaring 'Don't Stop Believing'. Don't think we can ever escape the sounds of Journey, But that night I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Videos of all this are on my YouTube page. The last pitch, the dancing, and the fire engine.
I was in a bar in Modesto Ca with about 100 of my best friends. Ive watched a lot of baseball in my day and i have NEVER seen anything like the ball rolling down Hunter Pence's bat. It just goes to show you how great this game is.... you truly do see something you never have seen before everytime you watch. Keep Up the good work BASG
I was there standing behind the yellow line in Section 132. I bought standing room tickets for my girlfriend and myself off stubhub when I saw tickets were 100 each. I think I owed her after she bought tickets for Game 2 NLDS, Game 2 NLCS and Game 6 WS (she got the $$$ back). That is a game I will tell my kids about.
In my private suite called home
Secretly following start at computer at work- Tuned in on the radio on way home- Seeing the best rain dances since Woodstock!
I was there...SRO right field. I was in that scrum for Brandon Belts home run. I did not win, so maybe I'll win this ;)
I was in my room jumping up and down watching the rain poor. Great game and series. And it was only right that Holiday popped out to Scutaro.
In our seats in 212 with my Dad. Just me and him, and one of happiest moments of my life. With the rain pouring down, knowing our Giants had accomplished the impossible, was unforgettable.
I was on my couch by myself watching the tv with the radio synced to it. Even though we have already won one world series it still brought tears to my eyes to see Scutaro and Vogelsong got the chance to finally go to a world series. One of my favorite games and day as a lifelong Giants fan and it didn't matter that it was by myself.
I was unfortunately stuck at work. As I had a retail management job, I got screwed by everyone and had to be at the store. I had MLB at bat app playing over the store sound system and was hanging on every word. I had to visualize Kuiper describing the rain and just couldn't comprehend how well they did that day. I wasn't able to watch, but needless to say, I didn't get a lot of work done that day.
I was watching from home while my dad was sitting behind home plate. I was not happy because I had been at the previous game!
Whoops, thought this was the perfect game post from yesterday. I watched the game 7 by myself in my dorm room. I waved a rally rag alone, It was cool.
I was at home with my family, blankets and hot chocolate -- what could possibly be better? Oh, the Giants winning. That was pretty great.
I worked at a Summer Camp last summer and I was flying up to Seattle to do so. It turns out purchasing a ticket on Virgin America was the greatest decision that I made cause i could watch the game from the air. As the game went on, I kept thinking to my self that it could happen. Half the plane was watching the game, throwing fists and cheering after every out. in the bottom of the eighth, the plane landed and the TVs shut off. I switched over to my phone to watch the rest of the game. It Happened and I cheered in the Seattle airport and people just stared at me. I dont care. It Happened.
I had an Algebra class during game 7 of the NLCS. The instructor was incredibly long-winded that night and I kept having to leave the class to check my phone for the score of the Giants game. The reason I had to do this was because I got yelled at for looking at my phone so much during the lecture. I remember thinking this nerd probably has no idea who the Giants even are (which he later proved during the World Series, but that's another story) I finally decided that I did not like math all that much anyway and the Giants were putting a pretty good hurting on the Cards anyway, I left class early to see Marco Scutaro getting rained on. This also helps to explain why I need to take that math class over again next semester.
I was at home in our living room in Tucson with my wife, 2 yr old daughter and 3 yr old son. Every game of the season I'd tuck the children in and ask them who's pitching the next day and sometimes they'd guess right and sometimes wrong. Through this experience, I learned that my son's favorite was Cain and my daughter split between Timmy and Zito. For Game 7 we sang and danced and praised Matt Cain, and I praised the fact that just 2 yrs after our second child was born we've gone from 0 SF championships to 2. Oh, and we're moving back to Northern Cali so the kids can visit the greatest ballpark on Earth...regularly.
At my hotel in Minnesota, buried neck deep in project work. I watched the whole game and promptly texted a smiley face to my colleague from St. Louis who was in Minnesota working with me.
I had just gotten back in from SF attended a good friend's wedding. Game 6 was crazy because the entire wedding reception revolved around the game and hoorays and cheers went up whenever the Giants did something good. To say the least the bride wasn't too happy. Anyways, game 7: I was at home watching, Torture slowly crept back in with each passed inning. Once the game ended, I knew I had to make a quick turnaround back to the Bay for the parade. Another SF Giants Championship...2 in my lifetime. We are blessed
I was in my kitchen watching the game on a small TV & listening on KNBR, just as I had done for the previous two elimination games. I avoided my cell phone & computer just as I had done for the previous two games. I was determined not to be the one to screw up the winning streak. And of course after the NLCS was over, I continued the same routine through the end of the World Series. I learned a long time ago that you never do anything that can mess up a winning streak! See, Dad, I listened to what you told me those many years ago!!!
Watching the game with my family!
I was standing in section 332 after my co-workers convinced me to buy a ticket 4:30 pm when my viewing party plans fell through. Since it was a last minute plan, I was wholly unprepared for the cold and the rain (that raaaaaaaaaaaain). There I stood, freezing cold and completely soaked, but way happier than the dejected Cardinals fans sitting a row in front me. After the final out there were excited hugs from strangers (we all stuck it out for the trophy presentations) & then REALLY cold ride home on Caltrain. Hands down - the best game I've been to (the first game 7 for any sport) & the cold I woke up with was well worth it.
In 2010, the World Series was played on a Monday and I had my Fall basketball league going on (though I heard the home run call before going into the gym). 2012, Game 7 of the NLCS was again on a Monday. My team had an 7 PM game but I was following the game throughout on the phone. My team won the game against the eventual league champions (they beat my team in the finals) but I played poorly. But after the game, I didn't really care. All I cared about was just following the game all the way until the end.
I was there, #Scutaroing in the rain.
