Since there won’t be any more football until the Sabercats strap ’em up for another season (Roar!), it seems like the perfect time for a little San Francisco Giants optimism/delusion.
Since Sabes took my advice and let Pedro Feliz go to the Phillies, rumor is the Giants have been “kicking the tires” on a possible trade for White Sox third sacker Joe Crede, who has almost no value after hitting .216 with 4 homers last year in 47 injury-plagued games. If the Giants don’t have to give up anything too valuable, they should try to get Crede to compete for their third base job this season. Crede did hit 30 homers along with a .283 average in 2006, and while like Pedro he doesn’t walk much, he doesn’t strike out much either.
All that would be left to do is get Adam Dunn to play first base, which might be pretty easy around midseason when the Reds are looking at another 95-loss year. Then you get a Giants batting order that could look like this:
1. Fred Lewis — LF
2. Kevin Frandsen — 2B
3. Joe Crede — 3B
4. Adam Dunn — 1B
5. Aaron Rowand — CF
6. Benjie Molina — C
7. Nate Schierholtz — RF
8. Omar Vizquel — SS
I could live with that team, couldn’t you? And yes, I intentionally left out Winn, Roberts, Durham and Aurilia.
