The 49ers could upset the Giants tomorrow night in East Rutherford, and if that happens everything will change. But today has been a pretty lousy day for a team that’s seen a lot of them over the last several months.
Wake up!
Not surprising that on a Saturday they’re jackhammering at 7am outside the team hotel … Because these guys are known to work all hours.

Always a nice way to start one’s first full day on the East Coast.
Speaking of jackhammers …
#Michigan now on an 80-0 run in the last nine quarters. Knew Harbaugh would make a huge difference but this is remarkable. — Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) October 10, 2015
You can add another seven points to UM’s total, as they just scored on a pick-6 while I was embedding that tweet. I’m currently watching Michigan throttle Northwestern on a non-HD channel (Comcast only gives us the Big-10 in 1990s vision for some reason) because none of the other games are interesting and I want to watch the man who once said “I am a jackhammer” patrol the sideline and see how good his team really is (hint: they’re pretty damned good already). Northwestern is the No. 13 team in the country. Michigan is No. 18 and rising.
Trent Baalke admits defeat
Team press release: “The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have promoted G Andrew Tiller to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team has released CB Shareece Wright.”
Here’s what Jay Hurley, probably the top “capologist” who blogs about the 49ers, had to say:
What a waste of money the Wright signing was, they gave him $2.6M between bonus and guaranteed base salary. Big mistake by Baalke.
— Jay Hurley (@Jay_AB81) October 10, 2015
Baalke signed Wright to be a starting cornerback, but he never impressed the team during the offseason and found himself on the inactive list in all four games. Wright complained via Twitter, then deleted that complaint, but he’ll probably leave this one up:
want to thank the @49ers Organization for granting my release. — shareece wright (@ShareeceWright) October 10, 2015
Why make this move now?
Chris Biderman makes a good point here:
Worth noting: Tiller played a lot of LG in tc and preseason. LT Joe Staley is questionable tomorrow, LG Alex Boone would replace him.
— Chris Biderman (@ChrisBiderman) October 10, 2015
If the 49ers don’t have Staley (who gave up a huge sack last week on first-and-goal, but it still clearly the team’s best offensive lineman), even the Giants’ mediocre group of pass rushers will probably find their way to Colin Kaepernick a few times. The 49ers already knew they’d be without Vernon Davis for the second straight week, and Ahmad Brooks (who had his first decent game of the season against Green Bay) is doubtful due to the recent death of his sister.
Looking for some good news?
I found Jed York!
Here’s my response to anyone who says I have no proof that this Lexus SUV I found driving in Napa with an “OSOCLSY” license plate is Jed’s …
