Members of the SAG-AFTRA union will hand out anti-Cumulus fliers tonight outside AT&T Park before tonight’s game between the Giants and Dodgers. They plan on starting at the Willie Mays statue at 6 pm.
“Cumulus pays less than a living wage (on a highly profitable station KNBR),” texted Lauren Renaud, a SAG-AFTRA organizer. Cumulus owns several stations in the market, including KNBR, KTCT (known as KNBR 1050), KSFO, KFOG and KGO.
KNBR employees joined the union back in November. Here’s a press release with the details.
AT&T Park has seen its fair share of union demonstrations in recent years, with Centerplate employees picketing outside the stadium several times during the 2013 season.
Update: I just received a copy of the leaflet:
If you don't like the pay where you work then quit. A company can pay whatever they want. They're not forcing you to work there. If you don't like it then work somewhere else. Any company is in business to make money not make their employees rich.
@RaiderClay Your last statement is a sobering fact, but you're right. Everyone wants to get paid, but if the company is not making money then in turn, that obviously works out for no one.
@RaiderClay You are scum. Do you not understand that companies can make a massive profit and not pay employees a fair wage because they are praying on their ambition and dreams of becoming successful. Your neo con sentiment is so flimsy and weak. Labor unions aren't around today because they aren't needed. What do you do for a living? I bet there is government intervention in place to make sure you make enough money to go to the dump in Oakland and watch a team who is stealing your money. This kind of lazy thinking pisses me off so much.
LOL! Wow your really angry. Don't you know COMPANIES DO MAKE MASSIVE profit because they pray on their employees. It's been happening for centuries. If you don't like it don't buy the products and move to China. Oh wait China does it too and charges us 5 times the price. Wake up Otherman.
@RaiderClay @Otherman Oh my god, what a cop out argument. What do you do for a living? Or are you just hiding behind your keyboard? This country is all about identifying areas that need reform and fixing it. You seem to be all about regurgitating some bullshit you memorized form Rush Limbaugh. I ask again, what do you do for work? Do you work?
@RaiderClay Somebody who takes peoples livelihood in such a non chalant and trivial manor is so fucking sick. What kind of person cheers for a real life villain? Who wants people to get screwed? What is wrong with you?
You Liberals are really unhappy people. If you don't like what Cumulus is doing Boycott or protest. Do you think KNBR is going out of business because of you? I don't have to tell you where I work. This is not about me. Your not going to stop a corporation. So have fun lighting a candle tonight at your REFORM POTEST MEETING. And follow Obama on Twitter
A good friend of mine spent 10 years banging his head against the wall trying to make it in the Radio biz. Now he's selling solar power and killing it.
That leaflet is an indictment of KNBR's management.
You can bet the 9:00 - noon host at KNBR will avoid the pickets.
When it comes time to stand up for your fellow coworkers, I'am afraid he will not be counted.
This demonstration is obviously legit, since KNBR on-air talent has to work a 2nd job at a local TV station to make ends meet!!
@coredump LOL.... You have a point here with Gary's work on KRON, and I think Kate does weekend sports spots on NBC Bay Area. Even though Krueger doesn't do TV, he also does 49ers pre and post and I think Stanford football pregame. Of course, Fitz calls Warrior games on Comcast.
But yes, some of the KNBR hosts do have other jobs besides their KNBR job.
@coredump Thats one host who is kept there to drive ratings. You must be dumb enough to think that a host is all you need to produce a radio show.
@beandoggerel No offense to Flo, but her commercials on the radio are getting more and more lame
@BASportsGuy it makes sense. Those living in the city are at a huge income disadvantage. Just a small sample of a growing disparity
@BASportsGuy what's considered a living wage in San Francisco and what do they get?
@AlanFox_ @BASportsGuy A living wage law for SF was passed earlier to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. So, in the books, this is the living wage for SF residents. However, if you believe in extremists like the National Low Income Housing Coalition, they claim you need $30 an hour for a living wage in SF.
Let's face it everyone needs at least
$100,000 a year minimum wage salary, a 40 hour work week, and two months off for vacation, family leave, and sick leave combined.
Qualifications? Just make sure you're breathing.
@Pizza Mike .... But not everybody can work for BART.
