The Warriors only used their “The City” logo for two seasons (1969-70 and ’70-71), but it remains an iconic look that has stood the test of time. Not only have the Warriors worn “throwback” uniforms featuring the logo in recent years, but one can see people wearing hats and t-shirts with “The City” and the circular depiction of the Golden Gate Bridge all over town … err, The City.
It wouldn’t be at all surprising if the Warriors went back to that same logo, or a slightly modernized one that looks similar, when they move back to San Francisco in 2018.
The Portland Trail Blazers have a social media presence that’s a tad trollish (more like a minor league baseball team than an NBA franchise, actually), and they had to have known this promotion would rile up some folks.

I half expected to see a Clif Bar or a woodland creature fall out of Robin Lopez’s hair during that GIF.
No one really “wins” in these social media skirmishes between accounts run by pro sports teams (although Rick Welts probably isn’t a fan of this promotion, seeing as the Blazers stand to make money from it), but the Warriors have a good chance at picking up their 58th victory tonight in Portland even with Steve Kerr deciding to rest Shaun Livingston. Golden State goes up north as 6.5-point favorites even though they played last night, in large part because LaMarcus Aldridge, Nic Batum and Chris Kaman are listed as doubtful. Plus, the Blazers already lost starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews, who suffered a ruptured Achilles earlier this month, for the season.
The bigger question — in my mind, anyway — is what Warriors fans think they should do when they move into the Giants’ hood in a few years. Should they remain the “Golden State Warriors” and keep the Bay Bridge logo, or become the San Francisco Warriors and bring back “The City”? I think we all know which way they’re leaning (“WHOOP WHOOP! Give it up for your San Francisco Warriors!” — Franco Finn), but I’m not sure if a lot of the team’s fans are on board.
