With Aaron Rodgers and the Packers traveling to Santa Clara this weekend to face the 49ers, and the 49ers’ current unease with their quarterback situation, the amount of “blow this season off for Goff” chatter reached a fever pitch over the weekend, and shows no signs of abating.
And Jared Goff is fantastic. He’s a top 20 FBS quarterback in every major category, he’s a Heisman candidate, and he’ll almost surely go in the top five of the 2016 NFL Draft. But the Golden Bears are a story unto themselves.
Since this is the Bay Area, and we’re used to Cal kind of muddling along after three consecutive losing seasons, people (myself included) are kind of late on this. But Cal is pretty good. The offense still outpaces the defense, but the defense is MUCH better than it was a year ago, and it didn’t look too bad at all against a pretty decent Huskies team in Seattle.
The Pac-12 is wide open this year, so there’s a chance Cal can go from 1-11 two years ago to contending for the conference title game (held at Levi’s Stadium). Their next in-conference game is this Saturday in Berkeley at 1 pm.
Want to see the Bears face the Washington St. Cougars?
I’ve got four pairs of tickets that we’ll be giving away today and tomorrow.
TRIVIA QUESTION: WHEN WAS THE LAST SEASON CAL STARTED 5-0?
You can either send me the answer in the comments under this post, on Twitter, or on our Facebook page. If you win, I’ll reply to you with further instructions on how you can pick up the tickets at Will Call.
This is an open book test, so Cal students and alums should have no problem with this. Good luck!
