Yesterday we reacted to the Golden State Warriors’ startlingly modern short-sleeved uniforms by looking back and choosing our favorite Dubs uniforms from the past. For today’s contest post I figured it’d make sense to stay in the present. Without further ado, here’s today’s contest question:
What’s the best looking CURRENT uniform in the Bay Area?
No retros allowed in this one. But if you answer this question in the comments, you’re eligible to win one of two 10-person pizza parties catered by Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria (the spread includes salads, too).
We’ll limit this to professional teams, because we have to limit this somehow. Here’s one example of each jersey, plus I linked to each team’s alternate styles.

1. Oakland Raiders home blacks. Raiders helmet. Not even close. In "best NFL uni's" polls, The Raiders regularly come out #1 or in the Top 5 2. SF Giants. The black "SF" Cap. Classic. Iconic. 3. The A's green and gold. 4. The Sharks Teal and Black 5. Niners have a unbelievable legacy of excellence and the uniform evokes Montana, Rice, Lott, etc. BUT it's a boring color scheme. Blah.
Allow me clarify to my earlier post. 49ers home uniform. Toss the current one into the trash can. Go back to the crimson red top with white arm sleave stripes and beige pants and white piping. This is the uniform that Montana, Clark, Solomon and Paul Hofer wore proudly on many Sundays. The A's home whites are excellent. Just junk the two tone hat. And go with a solid green hat. The same one worn on the road. Nobody needs a silly gold bill hat. Ditch it! Reminds me too much of Charlie Finley.
The Giants? I always liked the Giant caps best of all, I'm not sure why. They just remind me of Willy Mays I guess.
Teal? Teals says Martha Stewart.
The Warriors new uniforms look like they were designed by Barnum and Bailey. Are the teams going to get out of those tiny cars and puffs of smoke? I just don't see a NBA champion look.
Raiders and nobody is even a close second to them. I see the Silver and Black and I want to add another body under the house! Gets you going..hee.
I'll also do a list as to best uniforms in the Bay Area from top to bottom, even though I agree that there no Bay Area team really has a bad looking uniform right now. Here is my list: 1. Giants- Mainly for the reasons I stated in my previous post. 2. 49ers- Even though I liked the 49ers previous uniforms (the 1997-2008 ones) a little bit better than their current ones, the 49ers having a more modern version of the 80's uniforms was a good decision. Some people don't like the colors of their pants, and I agree that maybe they should change the pants and perhaps make them a little darker or a different shade of gold, but the 49ers uniforms are still a classic look. I agree that the 49ers red home jerseys are better than the road white jerseys though. 3. Raiders- Even though I'm not a Raider fan, and even though silver and black can be a bland color combination to some, I think we all can agree that the Raiders uniforms are kind of sick though. The colors really do match, and even though the Raiders have sucked for over 10 years now, their colors alone still give them that intensity. A lot of that might be because they have black in their color scheme though. 4. Warriors- I think we can all agree that the Warriors new alternate uniforms are horrid, but overall, they have nice uniforms. I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of the Warriors current uniforms when they first came out back in 2010, and I actually would still change them but keep the current logo since it's such as Bay Area-centric logo, but I have gotten more used to their current uniforms now. I think others mentioned this, but it was nice that they went back to the royal blue and gold colors. I mean the midnight blue and orange colors of their previous uniforms weren't too bad, but the royal blue and gold are fresher colors, and they match better than the Warriors midnight blue and orange did. Plus, going back to the royal blue and gold colors, was a nice way to go into this new era of Warriors basketball. The Warriors losing and the Chris Cohan era in general, with the exception of the We Believe year and the year after that where they won 48 games, was more associated with the Warriors midnight blue and orange colors. But yes, the Warriors royal blue and gold colors just work better. Overall, the Warriors have nice uniforms and it's nice that they tried to make a more modern version of their "The City" uniforms. 5. A's- I agree that the A's have a nice uniform. It's simple. Their regular home white uniforms are clean, probably one of the cleanest uniforms in baseball, I'll admit, even though I'm not an A's fan. Even though they kind of wear their green alternate jerseys a little too much, it's not a bad look, but their green jerseys match better with the A's home uniforms than their road uniforms though. As far as their gold alternate jerseys go, I wasn't big on them at first, and they do stand out like the Giants orange alternate jerseys, but the more the A's wear the gold jerseys, I guess they aren't that bad of a look. The A's wore them a lot down the stretch in their division chase last season. I think they wore them the day they won the AL West last year. Gold really isn't a bad look for teams that have gold in their color scheme, as long as they have a matching color like the A's and the Packers do, with the green and gold. The Steelers with the black and gold, and of course the Warriors with the royal blue and gold. 6. Sharks- Even though the Sharks uniforms are unique with the teal, and the teal really makes them unique and standout, they really should go with the black uniforms full-time for home games, and go with the teal uniforms as alternates. 7. Earthquakes- I'm not a soccer fan, but I guess the Earthquakes uniforms are ok. Do they really need all the advertisements on the soccer jerseys though? Yes, it's free advertising and more business for the companies that sponsor them, but when is enough, enough? LOL.
You're a man who has a lot of free time.
LOL.... Yeah, I just wanted to do a list like everyone else did, but I wanted to explain why I ranked the teams where I ranked them, as far as Bay Area uniforms go. I wanted to go in depth on why I think the Giants have the best uniforms in the Bay Area right now, instead of putting all of that in one post, and it would've been one huge post. I guess I just have a lot to say. LOL
For me, I agree, the best uniforms currently in the Bay Area right now are the Giants uniforms. The Giants have a classic uniform, and even though I'm not as big of a fan of the orange alternate jerseys, it is cool when they wear them for Friday night home games. The Giants do their alternate jerseys right where they don't wear them too much, like other MLB teams and other sports teams in general do, and I agree that it is nice that fans get dressed up in orange on Orange Fridays. It's almost kind of exciting when you go to a Giants Friday night home game and you wear your orange, knowing that the Giants will be wearing their orange jerseys that night. I think I agree about the piping on the Giants road jerseys. I didn't like it at first when the Giants came out with them last year, but the Giants new road jerseys grew on me last year. I think when I saw them in them, the new road jerseys with the piping didn't look that bad. It's probably one of those things where you have to see the jerseys wore first, before you decide if you like the jersey or not. They don't look that bad, even though I still could do without the piping. I also like the new road alternates as well with the SF on the chest. It's a nice look! Some have said that the piping looks better on the Giants road alternates with the SF and I agree. It matches the road alternates better, than the regular road uniforms. It's kind of too bad that the Giants can't bring back the black alternate jerseys though. I, like others, would like to see the Giants black alternate jerseys again. Those would be cool to wear for Giants road games, even though they didn't look bad with the home uniforms. If the Giants just wore them for road games, they can have the orange alternate for Friday night home games, and bring back the black alternates for Friday night road games perhaps, or wear them once or twice during a road trip perhaps? But yes, it would be nice if the Giants brought back the black alternates. But yes, overall, the Giants have the best uniforms in the Bay Area right now!
The Quakes old red uniforms were the best.
Right on BASG, you put the best looking Jersey on the Picture, go ahead and admit it your a closet A's fan aren't you? 1)A's Gold Uni 2)Niners Home Uni 3)Giants Road Uni 4)Any Warriors Uni 5)Sharks Black Uni 6)Raiders Home Uni
The Raiders are constantly ranked high in national uni lists. Say silver and black and people already know the team you're mentioning. Best uni in sports. The A's gold uni's are a close second.
Best uniform in the Bay Area? Easy the San Jose Stae road uniform. White top with gold pants. Traditional and timeless. Second best? The Oakland Raiders home uniform. Black top and Silver pants. Third best? Giants home uniforms. Nobody does it better. White/Cream colored with black and organge piping on the pant leg. And best of all a Black hat with a simple SF logo. Mays, Marichal, Cepada and McCovey and Ken Henderson would be proud.
Im a casual Sharks fan but I like their black alts the best out of all the pro unis in the Bay Area. Love the black and teal combo. Like the Giants classic home and sunday roads jerseys but gotta ditch the black piping the road jersey with 'San Francisco' across, doesn't look right. I know I'm in the minority but I am not a fan of the orange or 'Caltrans' jerseys as BASG referred it, just too bright for a jersey. As far as the other teams like the Niners, Warriors, Raiders, A's and Quakes, I like all of their uni combos but its something about those Sharks sweaters that make it better than the rest
Definitely the 49ers. Modern look with a classic feel.
49ers unis are hands down the best. Period. The original claimstakers in red and gold. Gold for gold and Red for blood, sweat and tears. It is a true reminder of a great era in Bay Area sports - like putting on a fitted business suit it exudes confidence and swagger. The 49ers are bringing that confidence and swagger back to the Bay Area with their play and their unis.
The A's gold jersey is the best uni in all of sports.
I'm an anit-jersey wearing guy. The Sharks black alternates is the only jersey I own - that's my vote.
Nothing beats the Red Niners jersey. The look is perfect
I think all of the bay area teams have great looking uniforms but the Giants cream colored home unis are my favorite.
I have to say that for the most part the Bay Area has a lot of very nice uniforms. Ranking them sure isn't easy but I will do my best. The top 3 are all great and pretty much interchangeable for me: 1. Giants Home Jersey: A very classic, clean design. There really isn't anything on there that I would change. 2. A's Home Whites: Another classic jersey. Looks best when the go with the Green and Gold hat and pull up the pants to show off the stirrups with gold sanis. 3. Raiders Black Jerseys: These are an excellent classic look. Wouldn't change a thing. 4. 49ers Red Jersey: The sleeve striping bugs me how it kind of disappears. I would love it if they moved the stripes down to compression shirts so it would allow them to have real stripes. 5. Warriors white jersey: I love the modern take on the classic, I think the white jersey pops better but the blue is nice as well. 6. A's Yellow jersey: I am not a huge fan of most color top baseball jerseys but I really like this one. Looks good and fits with the A's really well. Much better than the Green top. 7. A's gray road jersey: Very nice look. 8. Giants Sunday gray jersey: I don't like the black piping on the regular road jersey, just seems like too much but on this one it works really well. 9. 49ers White jersey: Same sleeve stripe issues but still a nice look. Not quite as iconic as the red jersey. 10. Warriors blue jersey: feels like just a bit too much blue and not enough of the yellow and white to break it up. Still a very good look. 11. Raiders White jersey: Not enough black in this for me. The white and silver don't provide enough contrast for me. 12. Earthquakes blue jersey: The earthquakes seem to use too much black in the uniforms for me but the blue (and the whites) are very nice. 13. Sharks White Jersey: This one really cuts down on the amount of black used which I really like. San Jose needs to. Like the earthquakes just too much black in their uniforms. 14. Giants regular gray jersey: Black piping in the middle ruins this look for me. I don’t think that it is necessary and breaks up the “San Francisco” across the chest. Without the piping this is a top 10 look for me. 15. Sharks teal jersey: like the earthquakes the sharks use too much black in their uniforms. The teals use it as an accent which I think works much better. I love the touch of orange in the striping. 16. Giants orange tops: I like the thought of using orange but I don’t think it looks right with the cream pants. That was the problem with the black tops for me as well. It seems to work well but I think it ends up looking too much like BP jerseys. 17. A’s green tops: see above. 18. Earthquakes black long sleeves: I like the stripes going all the way down but too much black. 19. Sharks black jerseys: Again just too much black. 20. Warriors short sleeve alternates: I like the idea but not the execution. I don’t have a problem with the short sleeves but the yellows not matching and then the pin stripping on the shorts looks off. There seems to be two separate designs going on here and they just threw them together.
"Wow" - Eric Davis
Tie - Home jersey's of Giants. 49ers.
Sharks white road jersey is my fav jersey I own. Niners second.
FYI BayAreaSportsGuy... you have the Niners and Giants both listed as #4. 1. Sharks (black) - might just be the coolest logo in sports, but then again, I'm biased. :) And almost anyone looks cool in a hockey sweater 2. Giants (orange) - I always look forward to Orange Friday. I always like to see a team (and the crowd) wearing their colors. 3. A's (green) - even though I'm not a big A's fan, that's nice looking jersey 4. Warriors (blue) - blue and gold is just a classic combo 5. Quakes (longsleeve)- another nice logo on a good pallet 6. Niners - while I like their earlier jerseys more that either included gold or the depth shadow on the numbers, these are still classic 7. Raiders - while still a classic, they're just a bit bland for my taste.
The only answer is the team whose uniform has never been changed, The Raiders. What other team has people who dont even watch sports wearing Raiders gear. 2. Athletics 3. Warriors 4. Sharks 5. Giants 6. Earthquakes 7. 49ers
Giants gray roadies with the SF on the chest are my personal favorite
GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BLACK AND ORANGE FOREVER BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's close to a tie between the Giants' home uniforms and the Niners's home unis for me. Love the stripes on the Niners current bright jerseys, but seeing that orange and black just fills me with happiness... so I guess I gotta go Gigantes.
1- Giants for sure 2- 49ers a close second!
Giants!
The A's by a long shot. Niners should burn current uni's to break the losing curse in the Bay Area.
1) Orange & Black [big gap] 2) Niners 3) W's (current unis, not including short-sleeve alt's) 4) A's [big gap] 5) Raiders [huge gap] 6) Sharks 7) Earthquakes
Hey alright, Quakes were included as a professional team ;) I'll go with the Warriors jerseys: great color tones, prominent placement of Bay Area imagery, slightly retro. The short sleeve jerseys and those SHORTS are the ugliest things I've ever seen though.
Niners, Raiders, Giants, Warriors, A's I went with who had the most iconic jerseys. I left the others off because they arent real sports :D
