Oakland Raiders

Photoshopped views of new-look Raiders offense & defense

The Oakland Raiders have brought in twelve new players this offseason and the majority of those guys will be starting or playing significant time. For the third straight year, Raiders fans will be watching almost a completely different team. Though not as drastic as last season when 10 of 11 guys on defense were new, the team that will take the field on opening day will still be drastically different than the one in 2013.

On defensive Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodley, Antonio Smith and Tarell Brown will all be starting and Carlos Rogers will see plenty of time as the team’s nickel cornerback. On offense, Donald Penn, Austin Howard, James Jones and Matt Schaub will all be starters while Kevin Boothe will compete for a starting job and Maurice Jones-Drew will play a significant number of snaps regardless of whether or not he is named the starter.

That is a whole lot of new faces that will be spending a lot of time on the field for the Raiders. Almost so much that it is hard to imagine. But worry not, the guys over at Pro Football Focus have photo shopped a visual of the revamped Raiders so your imagination can rest easy.

The defense actually has a decent amount of silver and black still in the picture. The entire starting linebacker unit will be returning as will both starting safeties from last season. But along the defensive line there is only one returning starter as well as at corner.

Clearly there is a significant chance the Raiders do not land DeSean Jackson so the picture may look different, but the point remains. The offensive line is overhauled and key positions feature new faces. The Raiders have not just added new members to the team, they have completely overhauled the starting lineup on both sides of the ball.

General manager Reggie McKenzie is clearly going all out to try and win this season, but in his own way. He still refuses to give out massive contracts in order to land big names, instead opting for an abundance of veteran players that he hopes can lead a young group of returning players and players yet to be drafted.
