95.7 FM The Game

August sports talk ratings look like July ratings, and June ratings …

knbr 680 vs 95.7 the game

The Nielsen numbers were released yesterday, and once again I’m at a loss. I briefly stopped covering the monthly numbers a year or so ago, mostly because I got bored. It’s like reporting on rainfall totals in California. Nothing’s happening, nothings changing, nothing to see here.

Radio ramblings

— I haven’t asked for feedback from the commentariat all that often lately, but I have a couple questions.

1. Should I keep running these ratings posts, or has this feature run its course?

2. Does anyone want to write about the A’s? Everyone who’s reached out and offered their services as an A’s writer has quit within two months for various reasons. Otherwise, we may need to tarp off that section of the website.

— Yawn:

— Yes, KNBR airs a ton of commercials throughout the day. That’s seen by some as an advantage for 95.7 The Game. It is, for the listener. But it’s not like Entercom is less interested in ad revenue than Cumulus.

— I’ve been told that 95.7 has supplied free commercial time to certain companies in return for merchandise. That’s not a good sign.

— Anyone else cringe when Rod Brooks refers to people as “cats”?

— Since we’re on the subject, I wouldn’t mind never hearing the phrases “Fitz and Brooks University” or “Fitz and Brooks Mojo” again.

— Sorry, the last two comments came from catching a little bit of their show on Friday while stuck in Petaluma traffic. After some especially loud and fake laughter at a Bob Fitzgerald comment that wasn’t the least bit funny, my wife looked up from her phone. “What’s wrong with them?” I took that as a rhetorical question, then I changed the station.

— An idea that never works out all that well: reading texts from listeners on the air.

— Guess I was wrong on Ric Bucher fleeing 95.7 for Bleacher Report Radio, at least this week. B/R might need to buy out his contract at 95.7 — they have the money, but the question of “how much is he worth?” comes into play.
