When we last left our two competing sports radio stations the regular season baseball was just finishing up and KNBR had a comfortable lead in the ratings war. Since then we have seen a great World Series come and go, football season come into full swing, Damon Bruce return back to his old home on KNBR 1050 and Dan Dibley take offense to the word “exclusive”.
So what’s happened in the ratings now that the boys of summer have gone away? The Radio War Ratings through October:

Well another month has past and “The Sports Leader” is still number one in the Bay Area, but their lead has certainly been affected by the loss of nightly Giants Games. KNBR saw a drop of 20% in San Francisco and 15% in San Jose while 95.7 “The Game” held steady to close the gap between the two.
The big gainer this month was KNBR 1050, which saw its San Francisco ratings double from last month and a nearly 60% increase in the San Jose market. Is this some sort of “Damon Bruce effect” or maybe just some sort of blip that will correct itself in the coming months? If you have any ideas as to what would have caused this let me know in the comments.
Last month I said the interesting battle would be between “The Game”and KNBR’s “B” team on 1050, and that continues to be the case. After moving into second place in August “The Game” has seen 1050 come roaring back to move them into third place in the sports radio ratings. That has to be a little bit embarrassing after all the less-than-nice things that they have said to attempt to draw ratings away from KNBR.
All of this is far from over and I am sure we will all continue to watch with morbid fascination.
