Don’t be surprised if Carlos Beltran doesn’t play on Wednesday, either. In his pregame interview in the dugout, Bruce Bochy said Beltran would be unavailable tonight off the bench, and from the sounds of things the Giants are leaning toward resting him tomorrow and hoping he’s as close to fully healed as possible after an off-day on Thursday.
“He’s doing better. He’s improving, but still not quite ready, so he’ll stay at day-to-day, so we’re hopeful tomorrow,” Bochy said. “Reevaluate him when he comes in tomorrow and he’ll continue to get treatment and if we don’t think he’s quite ready then tomorrow, with the day off we’re very optimistic that he’ll be okay to go in Florida.”
You can see Bochy’s explanation in the video below, which starts with Amy Gutierrez giving him a playful smack with some papers for some reason.
This next clip includes a little more on Beltran, and whether Bochy thinks Nate Schierholtz’s performance at the plate changes depends on whether he plays right field or left field (he doesn’t):
For those of you who are worried about Barry Zito (who was at the park today, shown in the photo above chatting with Tim Lincecum), here’s what Bochy had to say. Hint: he’s making another start in San Jose:
And on the Pat Burrell front, Bochy said that he’s going to “get another opinion” in North Carolina. “It’d be nice to have him. He’s very disappointed that this thing has not come around like he had hoped.”
