Enough the rants, back to clearing dead weight. Hopefully, anyway. If we’re to believe the reports, Eric Surkamp is on his way to San Francisco in a Greyhound Bus from Richmond, so he should probably be here by Sept. 6, Sept. 7 at the very latest. Actually that’s not right. He’s about to go from leading all of Double-A in ERA at 2.02 to starting tomorrow against the Houston Astros.
Great news. Dan Runzler might still become something, but something tells me he may be a left-handed William VanLandingham. Any of you who remember the spaced-out looking guy with the 13-letter last name are probably nodding your heads after reading that. Plenty of promise, not the greatest command in the world. With the Giants 3 games back with only 31 games left, they don’t have time for Runzler’s deal — whatever it is
The question is who he’ll replace on the 40-man roster. Somebody’s got to go, and it could be Runzler. It should be Aaron Rowand, but Brian Sabean will probably want to milk the last year of sub-.300 OBP out of that contract. Mark DeRosa wouldn’t be a bad option since even he admits he can’t hit for a lick of power anymore due to his wrist, but they’ve waited this long to keep him around when the rosters expand. Tough to imagine they’ll drop him either.
Well, I’m on a Virgin America plane as I write this while flying to San Diego, so like somebody on the Giants’ 40-man, I’ve got to go, too. Maybe by the time I land and turn my phone on find out Aaron Rowand was jailed for good. But probably not.
