And the winners of two pairs of Giants tickets are…

There was a game last night, and from all accounts a pretty good one. I didn’t see it because I’m in San Diego, where I parked my car at Qualcomm Stadium at 6 am this morning to try to find my wife so I could cheer her on while she ran a half-marathon.

After getting lost several times and running about 8 miles myself, I finally found her at Mile 12. As I explained why it took so long for me to locate her (getting lost on SD’s trolley system, an inability to read maps) she told me to stop talking because, well, she was in the middle of finishing a half-marathon.

“Good point, dear. I’ll shut up now,” I said (or something to that effect).

Speaking of shutting up, I’ll end that irrelevant story to give you the info you’re really interested in: who won the two pairs of Giants tickets to the game on June 30 against the Cincinnati Reds? Or more to the point, who correctly predicted the Giants would get 6 hits last night in their 2-1 victory and will get a chance to grab some 2002 Giants players bobbleheads?

Four people hit the prediction right on the nose, but two of them are affiliated in one way or another with BASG or this contest. Joey McMurry is a contributor who’ll have an expanded role this summer, as he’s on break from his studies at University of Oregon. Joey, you correctly guessed 6 hits but you have ties to the mothership. I’ll make it up to you at some point soon, but I can’t give you a pair of tickets. Not one of these pairs of tickets, anyway.

Likewise, Justin from FanCake won’t be getting any tickets either even though his guess was also spot-on, because that wouldn’t be fair. Plus, Justin probably has access to Giants tickets through other channels, right? Regardless, thanks to Justin for sponsoring the contest. I owe you a beer or two for guessing the number of hits correctly (I think Joey’s underage so he and I will have to work something else out).

So, with no further ado … the winners are:

Upper Deck Dave and Patrick!!!

I’ll be contacting both of you shortly via the email addresses you provided so we can get a pair of tickets to each of you. Thanks to everyone for playing, not only did we get a lot of responses — we received several witty, insightful responses. I continue to be amazed at the quality of the comments on this site. Compared to other places (cough … Yahoo … cough … ESPN … cough … YouTube … puke).

And in case you’re interested, here was the final tally for Giants MVP:

  • Melky Cabrera: 24
  • Matt Cain: 4
  • Santiago Casilla: 4
  • Buster Posey: 3
  • Gregor Blanco: 3
  • Barry Zito: 2
  • Joaquin Arias: 1
  • Madison Bumgarner: 1
  • Brandon Crawford: 1
  • Aubrey Huff: 1
  • Tim Lincecum: 1

P.S. I hung out with Justin from FanCake on Wednesday at Shanghai Kelly’s, and he showed me the ins and outs of the app. I’m not just saying this — it’s fantastic. The interface is great, everything happens in real time and it’s challenging without being difficult to navigate. If you’re someone who’d be interested in combining the experience of playing a video game with social interaction, as well as watching and predicting sports, this app’s definitely worth a try.
