As my wife pored through all the video yesterday during her GIF-finding mission after the 49ers beat the Panthers to advance to the NFC Championship game, she found something that we both found pretty funny.
When players are asked about playing for Harbaugh, one thing you’ll often hear is how they almost consider him to be a fellow player. That’s the vibe one gets from watching the interaction between Gore and Harbaugh in the GIF above.
Granted, Gore has the kind of credentials that might allow for a more familiar relationship with his head coach than someone like, say, LaMichael James. But it’s pretty rare to see a player come up to the boss during the game and give him a little shoulder bump.
Harbaugh, who was probably busy dealing with a million other things at the time, seemed pretty patient here. That’s probably because Gore is a pretty chatty guy — especially during games — so Harbaugh is probably used to this kind of interaction on the sidelines.
I asked Harbaugh today about what Gore was so enthusiastic about, and here’s what he said:
“What the conversations have always been between Frank and I, in-game, during the game, things that he thinks would work, wants to suggest. In that particular case it was the same,” Harbaugh said.
“He was real adamant about keep giving him the ball, keep giving him the ball. And I listened.”
