I’ll admit, when the San Francisco Giants bragged today about creating baseball’s first organic edible garden, I didn’t think twice. I was too worried about the “Yahoo yodel” getting played after home runs (what about the foghorn?) and where the avocado tree behind the centerfield wall went.
But the San Diego Padres are entering their third season with a garden like this. They let the Giants know, in the way teams communicate about things like edible gardens in 2014: a snarky tweet with a #justsayin hashtag.

After a few hours to discuss their options, the Giants did the right thing and apologized for a brand new, yet extremely serious crime: garden misrepresentation.
The #SFGiants apologize to the @Padres for apparently misrepresenting our garden as the 1st of its kind in a MLB ballpark…(Cont)

We weren’t aware of the Padres garden and are thrilled that another organization has such a wonderful space. Here’s to a HEALTHY 2014

This has to rank high on the list of the most California things ever. It’s so California, the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote an awful song to capture the moment called “In Your Garden.”
In your garden, your edible garden
Your kale makes me feel alive
In your garden, your edible garden
Girl show me your … chives

That’s just the first verse, but it gets repeated 15 times. It’s already getting played hourly on Live 105, and sources say the song’s popularity has led the Giants to consider inviting the Peppers to AT&T Park for one of those Opening Day “surprises” they mentioned during today’s Media Open House.
