You may have noticed that Bay Area Sports Guy looks a little different than it has over the past few years. Okay, A LOT different. We’ve been working on this redesign for several weeks now, and we hope that the new look and functionality will create a better user experience for everybody while still staying true to what BASG has been all about since January, 2008.
What exactly is that, you ask? Several things, actually. (1) A constant flow of relevant, Bay Area-centric content about all the teams, with a little extra focus on the Giants, 49ers and Warriors. (2) Several contributors writing about anything and everything, all with unique, intelligent points of view. (3) Pressbox, locker room and on-field access to several professional teams in the area. (4) Most importantly, an independent look at the local sports and media landscapes, with (5) a little humor (and some giveaways) thrown in, too.
You’ll notice the site looks different in many ways. The cartoon-guy logo has been tweaked a little bit, but after lots of discussion about severely altering or dropping the logo entirely, we’re keeping him around. Besides, I’ve grown to like the guy. From feedback we’ve received from friends and family, a lot of other people would’ve been sad to see him go as well. There are now specific pages dedicated to each of the local teams, as well as pages for videos and podcasts (more of those to come, I promise).
An incredible amount of work went into the new site, and I need to give my sincerest thanks to my wife for working with the developers and helping me in the technical areas where I’m almost useless. Elizabeth, I appreciate your patience with me more than you’ll ever know. Also, many thanks to the Russian designer who created the new look and graphics, as well as the developers in the UK and other countries throughout the world who worked day and night to transfer over 1,500 old posts over to this new site and handle all the other changes we asked for.
So click around, check it out, and let me know what you think either here in the comments or on Twitter and/or Facebook. As you can see we’re growing pretty quickly, and we want to make this site as easy to navigate and useful as possible to all of you. BASG would be nothing without the readers, contributors, commenters and friends, so thank you for all your support … and don’t forget to sign up for the new newsletter at the bottom of the page!
