Jim Harbaugh congratulates Matt Cain on his ‘wonderful’ perfect game (video)

I don’t have much experience dealing with Jim Harbaugh. Okay, I didn’t have any experience dealing with the San Francisco 49ers head coach until this afternoon. I’ve heard he can be a little difficult to deal with at times, but that sure wasn’t the case this afternoon. Harbaugh was downright ebullient. He was excited about how well the day’s practice had gone and pretty much everything else under the sun including Matt Cain’s perfect game, which Matt Maiocco asked him about at the end of Harbaugh’s media session.

Maiocco: “Being the baseball fan that you are, did you happen to catch the Giants game last night?”

Harbaugh: “I did. Loved it. Congratulations to Matt Cain. Congratulations to the San Francisco Giants. A great team effort of pitching a historic perfect game, first in what, 126 or 128 years of the organization. Is that the 22nd perfect game? Wonderful, wonderful, and I had a great experience playing golf with Matt Cain in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Wonderful guy, great competitor. Just couldn’t be happier for him. And I can say I know him. But exciting thing, it really grasped the whole team effort of that. Watched some of those catches made in the outfield. Just wonderful, wonderful to witness. Congratulations to all the Giant faithful, too. Just a wonderful thing for the organization.

BASG: “Did you see his drive before the game, with Dustin Johnson into the Cove? Cain got to hit a ball into the Cove there, like a 300-yard draw I guess.”

Harbaugh: “Oh, I didn’t see that. He can hit it big. He’s a big stick, there’s no doubt about it. Even some of the pros, Alex (Smith) and Matt were both driving right up there with pro golfers and out-driving them at times. Pretty neat to watch.”
