The Nielsen Audio ratings came out recently, updated with something they call the “Holiday” period, which actually spans most of December (don’t ask):

Yay, ratings! Not much new here, KNBR is treading water until the Giants start playing again, The Game hopes more people start listening to A’s games in 2014 than they did in 2013, and KTCT is KNBR’s storage unit.
It’s only been like two weeks, but I’m curious what you think about the new show on 95.7 that replaced Matt Steinmetz and Sean O’Connell. I checked out the show a few times in the days before and after the NFC Championship Game, and since then I haven’t listened to a whole lot of talk radio because I couldn’t handle all the terrible takes from callers. LOL KNBR Callers’ timeline in the week after the 49ers lost was truly frightening at times. Turns out not all sports fans are what most researchers would define as “logical” or “literate.”
Anyway, so far I think we can assume that the chemistry between John Middlekauff and Guy Haberman won’t be a problem. The Game sold this show as something we’d want to hear because those two have been friends forever and were even roommates once upon a time. I’m not sure that’ll get people to listen, but the two sound pretty comfortable doing the whole sports banter thing.
Do they bring any humor? Is Middlekauff — who seems like a guy fans either love or hate — someone who can handle a wide variety of sports instead of resting on his “ex-NFL scout” credentials? Is Haberman someone who gets people to tune in?
This is pretty bad for a sportswriter (yeah, yeah, “blogger”) to admit, but I don’t have a set opinion about this show yet. That’s probably because I’ve only heard it three or four times, for a half hour at a time, while driving to Santa Clara to watch Jim Harbaugh answer questions about Colin Kaepernick.
We’re giving away two 10-person Super Bowl Parties catered by Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria this week. Daily contest posts from Monday through Thursday are how you enter by commenting (winners picked Friday), and here’s today’s question:
Haberman & Middlekauff … your thoughts?
