Brian Wilson

The three winners of a copy of ‘Miracle Ball’ are…

I’m pretty impressed — and humbled — by both the number and quality of the responses to Friday’s “BASG Giveaway: ‘Miracle Ball — My Shot for the Shot Heard ‘Round the World‘” contest, where I asked the readers to list their own “Shot” moment.

In other words, since most of the BASG audience was either not alive yet when Bobby Thomson hit that homer off Ralph Branca or were too young to remember, I asked you to list the biggest Giants-related moment in your lifetime, and the responses were … I don’t want to say surprisingly good, but they were great.

The three comments with the most thumbs up will earn the person who wrote each one a copy of the book, regardless of the comment’s subject matter or how well they followed directions. Write something people like, win a book. Here are the top three…

Brian PM actually wrote another comment later which read, “I misunderstood the purpose of this, I wrote my personal favorite game. As for overall moment for Giants fans it has to be Kuiper’s call…”A SWING and a MISS. He struck him out swinging!!!”, then Brian Wilson turning to cross and screaming smiling while Posey and the rest of the team mob the mound. Get goosebumps just writing it. Easy winner, right?” And that comment also would have qualified him to win, because it garnered eight “thumbs up” votes. Brian pretty much dominated this contest.

Short, sweet, to the point — and Matt wins a free book as a result.

Not exactly a moment, but Lincecum’s masterpiece in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves provided several memorable moments, especially strikeout No. 14:

I’ll be contacting the winners via email to get addresses so the publisher can send each person a copy of Miracle Ball. Thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway by commenting, voting or both. Stay on the lookout for future giveaways; after the response this one got I think this segment’s a keeper.
